I cannot say enough good things about DreamweaverMX, it has built in code validation that is bang on (as far as I can tell) with W3C. I look forward to upgrade to 2004.
Are you upgrading? Or looking to by a new editor?
If the first, I can't give specific input about MX vs MX2004.

    A little more background

To make comments we would require a little more background.

    1. Do you use a mac or pc.

    2. Have you owned a previous version? if so which one.

    3. Do you use CSS a lot or a lot less.

    4. Do you use server side scripting, if so which one.

I would highly recommend Dreamweaver MX, if you're beggining you will experience a bit of a learning curve, but Dreamweaver's powerful features will prove extremelly useful as you learn how to fully utilize them.

I have been thru 3, 4 and upgraded to MX-Suite, Not to 2004 yet, initially heard that there was not enough difference to turn around and upgrade so fast. Have they started enhancing CSS tools in MX04?

    Dreamweaver MX2004

I currently use this product, been using Dreamweaver since I bought the Version 2 package, so thats been some time now..

What I have noticed, and I don't know what the deal is with it, was wondering if anyone else has this experience too....

I was working in it today, and was working with the CSS features, and the program closed on me <snap> just like that. No warning, no error, no anything, just up and dissapeared. When I loaded it back up again, no changes had been saved and I had to re-do everything from the last save. This happened to me today like 4 times. I don't know if it is a bug, or something with my version or what, but thats the only thing I have noticed so far that I have a problem with.

Anyone else have this happen to them?

I also have Flash MX2004, I missed the MX itself and am going from Flash 5 to MX2004 and having a very hard time adjusting to the new layouts and operations of the software. I am finding it difficult to do simple tasks, like setting the transparency of a symbol in the new version compared to 5. So I think I may need to take a class or something to get up to speed on FlashMX2004, because it's all pretty much greek to me now, even though I can use 5 pretty good.

*Sigh* the pros and cons of upgrades.. ain't technology grand!
