First, if you don't have ideas and enough material for at least fifty articles on the subtopics which make up a forum, don't start a forum -- or a content-driven site. A forum is more like a magazine than a technology installation. A successful install of invision or PHPbb is no more important than choosing which ink and paper weight to use in a magazine.

Survival depends on content strategy. ...not a drive-by post in a few other forums. Try the Forums and Content thread.

Taking a page from magazines ...Create a Statement of Editorial Purpose. This is a basic reason for existence, what the market is lacking, the direction you might like article submissions to take, the kind of visitor you want to target.

Interesting content producers isn't as simple as turning on a spigot. Here's an idea, let's come up with some articles on those topics ...then post them here (a high-traffic forum where they'll actually get read) instead.

Forums are notoriously difficult to get going without an established traffic stream & it WILL take a lot of your time to moderate.

Personally, I'd set up the site first with the content you have and encourage visitors to make comments via a form. Then follow up with a forum later when the site has become more well known.

There are hundreds of free article websites out there. I personally like http://www.goarticles.com and http://ezinearticles.com/ As long as you don't modify the author bio at the bottom of each article, you're free to use them.

Your website might be difficult to get going at first, but it could prove to be very successful if you market it correctly.

What type of marketing initiatives do you have planned for the site?

Oh, and one more thing - you might wish to delete the posting under "WomenXtra News" dated Oct 21, 2000.

A post from 5 years ago with 10 views doesn't add any value to your website.

Here's a nice call for submissions: She's Such a Geek. Lots of ideas for articles centered around a common theme.

Unlike generic headings, "She's Such a Geek" is a better kind of subsection heading as well. Headings like this are designed to attract a segment likely to build a community.

Happy Woman Magazine is the female version of The Onion.

Driving to the article dump for a shovel full of content is a nice idea, but it won't cut it for a content discussion forum. ...Maybe WPW should rename it the avoiding discussion of content forum.

You may now go back to talking about software and code.

    Have you thought about

Have you thought about asking women you know to write articles on specific topics and submitting them to you for publication? I was thinking about doing that for another site I found online just to get exposure to my own sites. They promised posting a link to my site along with my name free with my submission. Might want to try that.

    Duplicate content

I have a women content website as well but I try to publish original content. Wouldn't I get penalized for using already published articles due to duplicate content on the SEs?
