SEOs with 100s of sites--how do you manage it all?

I'm starting a bunch of new sites (I'm a writer so content is no problem).

One of the big concerns with this many sites, at least for many people, is to keep them on separate IP ranges. Also, it would seem to make sense to use several different registrars and keep most of the registrations private. Even if you're not a link farm, you don't want to be mistaken for one.

How do you manage all these different web hosts and registrars? Is there a webhost that offers to put each of your sites on separate IP ranges?

I've personally found that it's only really an issue if the sites on the different IP ranges are interlinked to each other.

There are too many shared hosts and too few IPs available (since every Internet connection has to have one, there are only so many left to go around) to assume otherwise.

I've got 12 with my box and I'm only supposed to have one. The problem is that I needed a private anonymous IP for ad agencies, a few for SSLs, one for my own site due to a logging issue (weird story), and the odd one here and there just because I asked really nicely.

    12 is "pushing it", though.

So I wouldn't really worry about it too much unless you plan on interlinking these sites all together.

Yes, I plan on interlinking the sites--that's why I asked. I don't think there would be an issue otherwise. The sites are in clusters of interrelated topics, so similar sites get interlinked.

I've talked to other people privately and it's something people are all concerned about, but most just seem to take the cost of managing multiple hosts as a cost of doing business. But there's got to be a system for handling this apart from a spreadsheet and patience.[/list]

Are you suggesting the search engines look at the IP address of the site? I've wondered about that because 1). I run a dedicated server, single IP (iPowerWeb) and all client ip's refer back to my site and 2). I run some sites on dynamic dns using a dsl link (non-commerical services). In the latter instance the IP address changes every time we have a thunderstorm!
