Has anyone else read Number 9 Dream by David Mitchell?

I read Cloud Atlas, then this one and now onto his first ever novel Ghostwritten. I am loving his work at the mo.

But it does sort of seem like he has tried to get two and a quarter books out of one lot of research (Japanese culture).
