While this is a response to David Utter's recent rant, it is such an important issue in our community of SEO's it deserves more than a bland, "no, I don't think so."
Utter argued the necessity of good content as opposed to keyword content and his message was well intended.
However, I feel you can have both. For those out there who are writers, you know the angst we go through just to find the perfect way to phrase something.
At first glance, this seems to argue for Utter's point of view. Damn the search-engine torpedoes... full steam ahead.
This is not an argument against well-written content. As all of us know, Google somehow senses well-written text and rates sites with it more important than those where spellcheck and Shakespeare have never dared to go.
This is an argument for well-written content which includes keywords. It is not a vis-a-vis situation where one must triumph over the other.
I’d like to pontificate more on the subject but there’s an op/ed on grotesque Port art I need to do so I’ll leave it up to the community to munch on.
Slan,
Jim Kelly
