    $500 to spend on promotion

I have about $500 to spend on promoting my website.
I am thinking about spending $299 to add my site to the Yahoo directory and then at least $80 on PRweb.
What do you guys think of that?
    Any suggestions?

    Thanks

Interestingly you mentioned Yahoo http://ww2.dowtheoryletters.com Richard Russells massive guide is sat on top of the pile for the search term Dow Theory, check out its tags, non existant almost, but what the site has is massive content, and paying For a Yahoo submission means that your site is seen by a living person, it does not mean inclusion. So think content. PM me your e-mail and I'll run it through for you.

    I second ctabuk.

Search engines want one thing, and that is quality content.

People browsing the Internet want one thing, and that is answers (content).

    See a pattern?

I suggest saving yourself loads of time by finding a freelance writer to create quality content for your website. (Don't fall for those content writers who want only $2.00 an article, you get what you pay for after all. )

Buy content and interlink your content within your website. Go one step further and find a writer who will not only write but submit articles to top newsletters under your niche.

    Good luck!

don't just think about spending your money. there are loads of high traffic web directories other than paying ones like yahoo where you can submit your URL to. it takes some time but submit your site to at least 30 web directories with alexa ranking above 100,000

content is also very useful, and will get you traffic. my site was up for 2 weeks and search engine users were already finding my site using their keywords!

content is key, and i mean unique content, not the ones that are free. free means everyone else is going to get it to put it up on their site. come up with your own unique yet interesting content or hire a freelance writer. don't expect to receive high traffic right away. patience is key with internet business

    hello marketthoughts

I have a linkbuilder/seo that can get u the most for your bucks. Pm me and i will show u all the great reviews he has gotten on the freelance bidding sites.
Content if written correctly can get u a better conversion rate but if your not ranked well in the search engines u can write all the content u want and no one will ever see it.
This guy did a fantastic job for me in just 10 days , and i plan on forming a company with him later in 2006. He has proven to be very hard working and trustworthy for me and this is why i wanted to pass him on to others(as long as they arent competing in my sectors hehehe).
Let me know by pm if your interested
    best regards

I would have spent no more then $40 on PRweb. I have used them a couple of time and although it normally generate a good spike in traffic which would last approx 3 days and will get you 4-5 incoming static links from other web sites. The rest are all auto feeds links form many web sites which are constantly being updated as more press releases are being published at PRweb. To cut a story short...very short lived spike in traffic.

Re yahoo directory, $299 per year is too much for what you actually get (you'll be lucky to get more then 100 visitors per year via the yahoo directory link).

I would have spent only $40 on PRweb and the rest on adwords and overture....much better value IMO.

    Maxer, thanks for your advise.
I think $80 get you much better results than $40.
I agree that I won't get much traffic from yahoo directory but what about PR benefits from listing there?

You can generate a press release with http://pressrelease.cc , then submit it to press release sites or outlets

I agree that you need to start with credibility, but dmoz can also give you that. the fee for Yahoo isn't
very much money, but it is a big percentage of what you
    have to spend.

If your page generates cash then I think I would bootstrap
    it with adwords.

Forget overture in my humble oppinion, I gave them a fluttter
and they gave me very little in return.
