Why am I page 1 on Google for this search term?

I recently got a referral from Google using a 2 word search term (unusual for us, the site is about 5 months old and mostly gets 3 or 4 word referrals)

The search term was: secured tenant

The mystery is that the phrase doesn't appear on the page or in the .pdf linked from it, and if you drop the 'd' and search for secure tenant, we're nowhere to be found...?

I don't know, but last month we had 7 visitors from SEs that used the search term 'attention whore'..

Still not sure how that happened..

You have the term: SECURE TENANT appearing on your page.

Search algorithms use synonyms, inflected forms,
and the plural and singular forms of keywords i.e. service and services to determine relevancy.

In your case se·cured is an Inflected Form of SECURE. So thats how you go from "SECURE TENANT" to "SECURED TENANT"

It may be case the search term "secure tenant" is a lot more economically competitive than "secured tenant" Try getting some links with "secure tenant" in the anchor text.

If the G is working 'secure' into 'secured' - shouldn't the sites that beat us for 'secure' still blow us away irrespective? Still a little confused...

Google will 'mix and match'phrases from your pages, it links to popular search terms, the quickest way is the old way, click on cached pages.

Looking at the cache highlighted the words secured twice on the page, so I guess that's why... they're still there, which explains it. Solved.

Still confused why we're not beaten by the same sites that beat us for 'secure tenant' - not that it's a phrase we optimised for, though you might not think it looking at the page - we say it a lot?!

ctabuk pointed out a nifty trick, "click on cached"
and it is TRUE the phrase "secured tenant" is on your page.

However “secured tenant” doesn’t show in the “search result description” from google:
"Secure tenant of a UK local authority for more than 2 years ... The right to buy mortgage scheme is open to virtually any secure tenant in the UK with the"

I believe due to the low keyword density your page has for “secure tenant” your page is clustered more with “secured tenant”

First, check out http://vivisimo.com/ which shows clustered Results. Do a search for both "secured tenant" and "secure tenant" and look at the clustered results for the two searches. Try to work into your page "Secure Tenancy"


Additionally you may start with the these suggestions to improve on the keyword "secure tenant" and move yourself away from "secured tenant"
#1 Remove the comments tags that are in between the head tag i.e.

#2 Improve the keyword density for "secure tenant" which is currently at 0.67% I believe 3% would be good.
#3 Change Secure Tenants in the description tag to "Secure Tenant"
#4 Put secure tenant into your keywords tag.
#5 Get a few links with “secure tenant” in the anchor text

I don't think 'secure tenant' is a popular search term, so it's probably not worth the effort to optimize, but the advice you give is very useful irrespective of the phrase itself, so thanks for those tips :-)
