    Shopping Carts

Need help in finding a shopping cart for a site.

What would be the best free shopping cart on the net?

What would be the best pay shopping cart?

    Are they easy to setup?

What would be one that is compatiable with paypal?

Paypal says they have a free one but when you try to get it they say you have to update your account to a business one, even though they offer the standard one.

Any other info on a shopping cart that one would need to know?

    Remember to keep it simple.

    Thanks to all that reply

DIY. Too many of the shopping carts out there don't work in most cases, and by the time they're done being retrofitted, it would take less time to just build one from scratch.

The other advantage to doing so is that you can put in custom features a lot more easily than you can with a standard cart.

    Building one from scratch? Yikees

The person that wants one on their site would only need a standard one I think. They belong to paypal.

What is the going rate to build one?

It really depends on what you want and what types of features and things. That's why I never price that stuff out per se, other than individual jobs.

I used to have Miva, but hated it's support and the code, which is written backwards and has a lot of afterthough additions. One of my sites is using xCart now and it is really nice! If you're comfortable with PHP, you'd love that one! Very reasonably priced and has a great support.

What is the address so I can take a look at it. Might as well check it out.

There are two freebies that I highly recommend:

#1: OSCommerce for the ease of install and menu of features. It's incredibly easy for beginners (i.e. our clients) to learn and use the admin area for adding products and managing orders. We love the ability to customize the look with STS Templates. Feel free to look at our portfolio on HSWD (link below) and look for Crooked Tree Breadworks, Whistling Moose Gallery, Weathervane of Traverse City for examples of customized OSCommerce sites.

#2: ZenCart for all the "extras" that are pre-installed. The drawback is ZenCart is very difficult to customize the look. (I tried integrating it into one site and gave up; I just don't have the time to mess with it right now.)

    Paypal is easy to use..
It's a simple href to get the info to the cart..
which is hosted on their end...

Upgrading the account is nothing more than adding
the bank account info to the paypal account.

There is also the IPN functionality which posts info
back to the website and can be used for all kinds of
    added functionality..
