    Duplicate Content Penalty

My site has been experienceing issues lately and I wondered if someone would have a look and tell me if my suspisions are correct.

My site is http://www.coolights.com and for the past 8 months or so all my pages are being indexed as "supplemental results". For the life of me I couldn't figure out why. Well today I discovered something that tells me my host (monster commerce) is up to no good.

Have a look at the following page.....
    http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&l...mercesites.com

The listings are all pages from my site but listed as "2076443022.monstercommercesites.com". Is this not just a "mirror" of my site?? And could it be causing duplicate content penalties...towards me?

Most likely. I'd be contacting them now to find out what the deal is.

Is it just me, or does everything seem to be out of control lately?

Maybe people tend to get relaxed with thier position in the search engines. Now that jagger got out the dagger everyone is investigating thier sites a little closer than they were.

The shame will be that many of them will be changing things and not being patient enough to wait and see what happens. Self destruction of many sites is in the works for sure.

Sounds like a good new topic header.

PRESACTLY! Patience is more than a virtue in this instance... it's your lifeline.

Easy to say but difficult to do in the face of dwindling traffic and lost revenue.

Not part of a mall site (per say) but my host does offer a listing in their "marketplace". Here is my listing.... http://www.monstermarketplace.com/Au...e/Store79.html. I asked to be removed from this marketplace yesterday but unfortunately I'm still there. Recently it was discovered they were using 302 re-directs to all the merchants stores. Monster Commerce, admitted they were doing it, claimed it was an accident and then fixed the problem.

They also offer an "html static cataloge" of all the products on your website, which up until 2 weeks ago... I was utilizing. Again, duplicate content of what was already on my site.

This has nothing to do with me not being patient. It's an issue with my hosting company and them producing my content at different addresses. Did you even click the links I provided??

In a nutshell, because Google is finding the content at this "mirror" site FIRST... and on my site SECOND, I believe, that my site (the actual producer of the content!) is getting a penalty.

Is it even legal for my hosting company to do this??

It's my understanding that duplicate content doesn't hurt if you establish yourself first!

That goes for replication of articles, press releases and just about anything else.

Let's all understand that there are different kinds of "dupe content"!

My comment wasnt directed towards you and i apoligize that it was seen that way. I have read so many posts of people wanting help with thier sites lately and i can see them running off and changing things. I was more or less thinking out loud here about the posts elsewhere.

I agree your situation is different. I did click on the links and seen the duplicate content. And the very reason i asked if you were part of a mall site.

Someone at that business needs to pay attention to what they are doing for sure. They are simply hurting sites like yours. Not sure what you would be able to do other than make them fix it.

Kind of hard when I'm going up against a large corporation such as Monster Commerce. I thought by writing the content and publishing it to my site I WAS establishing myself?!

I agree. They are killing my business.
