    Directory Inclusion

Is anybody aware of any dangers involved in submitting a site to Directories that are in the Alexa top 50000 sites but not listed on G.

A number I have reviewed do not have a Google listing and are PR0. I wondered if Google may consider these sites as Spam even though they have a high Alexa rating?

    examples: http://www.dirone.com/ http://www.sightquest.com/

    And others.

Even if the sites are banned by Google, having your site listed there is very unlikely to do any damage to your site's rankings. The reason being it is too easy to exploit this, competitors could simply subit your site to banned sites and damage your rankings.

The worst that will happen is that the links will do no good. I don't put a lot of faith in the Alexa rankings, they can be manipulated far too easy. That said, if the site is high in Alexa for legitimate reasons and your site gets listed there, even if it is banned in google, you may get some traffic, so it may be worth the time for you.

I agree but it would be silly to do anything that could effect existing high positions in Google if they are producing profits.

I am convinced Google is penalising pages for IBLs from banned sites. (My opinion only)Even though competitors could benefit.

If you have high rankings in google, yahoo, or msn you must have scraped links from google banned sites and most of them are acting like directories. Is this hurting your positions? Some sites banned|penalized by google are considered valuable by the other search engines.

PR0 sites are often just new. I wouldn't put a huge amount of time submitting to them, but eventually they might attain a higher rank. It doesn't hurt to have your site in them.

I wouldn't link back to any of the smaller directories though, it's difficult to know what their doing to gain popularity and you wouldn't want to go down with them if they get penalized for spamming.

Amazing, thank you, this is what I wanted. Here you have dirone.com as what I think an example of a blocked/banned site, and sightquest as one who has been sandboxed or pushed down for errors or transgressions.

The results from dirone.com are the first I have seen like onlinetv.com and I believe are banned and blocked results by Google.
