When reviewing, please keep two things in mind:

    1. This is a TEST SITE ONLY
    2. This is what my boss wants, as in general colors and layout.

I would like ideas on how I can just "sharpen" things up or present things better.

    Thank you

    Jennifer

PS: I personally don't like it, but I gotta do what the boss wants.

You're getting better everytime, but it's still a bit of a mess.

For example the the two business cards on the left are different sizes.

It's things like that, that make the page look poor.

Sometimes I think of a page/site like a brochure (depending what the sites purpose is). Maybe it will help if you do that as well. Maybe you should try drawing it first. Then draw/construct the site in a graphics program such as Fireworks or Photoshop.

Then once you've got your graphics transfer them into your html.

I would advise that you read some online tutorials.

I see your point about the business cards, they were images that were given to me to use, and I tried to resize them, but they didn't come out very clear. I now have access to a scanner and am going to scan them myself.

    My two cents

First thing I would do is get a domain name and a hosting company.

I would then get rid of the business cards on the left side.

Try to spice up the header a little.

Maybe add a picture on the left side or blend one into the background.

Move the contact information to the bottom of the page.

Add some really good text on the page.

    Without text it's hard to sell anything. (-;

    Janeth,
    Good points. I agree 100%.
I think the logo needs a bit of work as well.

    Xylina,

    split large images such as

    http://cox-financial.tripod.com/images/Banner.gif

    752 X 150

into 8 or 10 small images for a faster loading.

Your web visitors will appreciate that.

For example, have a look at the site www.cindik.net header before it was one peace now there are 10.

    Clear and concise

I like it because it is clear and concise. If Someone needs a good accountant, they will know whom to turn to. You don't need all the extra frills. Leave it as it is.

    Hi,

Have you tried finding some nice looking sites that fit your market and showing them to your boss? The colours / looks hark back to 90's / MS Frontpage layouts IMO - maybe he/she doesn't surf much...

I also agree with Janeth - using the business cards like that is cheap. Sure, the information they contain is important to convey, but it would better serve the company as actual text styled on the page, maybe backed up by an image, rather than scanned and presented without artistic flair - rotate, curl, crop... etc.

    Hope no offence taken...?

    Xylina,

Your boss appears every day in my local newspaper. The comic strip is called "Dilbert" and your boss is the "Pointy-Haired Boss".

That was being polite. "Idiot" is a more accurate term.

P.S. janeth knows what she is wrtining about. Listen to her.

    Dave your post was just...meaningless

    Xylina,

Janeth brought up some many good points. Definitely get hosting and a domain for the web site. It sure would be much easier to "visualize" the site without that Tripod advertisement.
