    Improving Google Pagerank

    Hello Fellow Friends,

I'd like to know what steps are there to be performed in order to acheive a page rank of 5 or higher?

Our present page rank at google is 3 for the homepabe of http://www.chadhaajay.net and I would like to make it more than 5. Any valuable comments / suggestions will be appreciated.

Dont worry so much about PR. It is fairly meaningless in the algo rankings. Probably soon to be even more meaningless when Google goes after paid advertising.

But if you must know. Get alot of relevant links from Good PR sources while minimizing PR leaks by having few outbound links.

    What are PR Leaks?

What are PR leaks and how do outbound links affect it...?

Although we rank quite well on major search engines for our choice of keywords Custom Toolbar Development, Firefox Toolbar Development and IE Toolbar Development for our website http://www.chadhaajay.net but still I think having a PR of 5 or higher will increase our ranks plus increasing credibility of our website in the minds of visitors having google toolbar installed.

The most obvious would be sitewide OBL's

In General, PR is based on number and PR of IBL's vs the number and PR of OBL's. For given page the more links you have on it the less PR is distributed to the OBL's.

I doubt the average visitor cares about this but you are in a toolbar field yourself so maybe it does. Most people misunderstand PR as actually being important, its not, its Google greatest marketing toy. Its entertainment for some and a curse for others.

The only reason I may covet PR is because of this public misconception it is important in reagrds to link exchanges. Otherwise it doesnt mean anything. Sometimes it is good tool for seeing if 3 year old site might be penalized but other than that its meaningless now. You can thank PR brokers for that.

Can you please elaborate on what factors will improve the SERP rank?

There is a thread titled ‘Impact of links from Yahoo Groups on Google SERP ranking’ on which I posed a question about publishing articles on third party sites. The question is essentially about the same issue, SERP rank. I will appreciate your thoughts.

    This is what I did...

    Hello chadhaajay,

I do agree that PR is not such a big deal, but nowadays it is still a factor in the way many people (mistakenly or not) perceive your site, and I can understand your interest.

In my opinion, the way I obtained PR5 for my homepage and PR4 for most all my internal pages was:

    1. by adding original content (new pages with new craft creations) every few days,

    2. by adding my site to as many quality directories I could find (mostly the ones that did not require a reciprocal link),

    3. by developing a resources (links) directory where my visitors could find related sites,

    4. by joining web rings, and finally

    5. by creating a blog related to updates and other news on my site

It does require a lot of hard work. There a tons of information out there on linking. Actually, after your site is well established and you offer your visitors and customers what you believe they are looking for, many sites will link to yours without requesting a link back...that is something that I have noted as well with my site.

Bottom line- It is hard work, and I'm sure the above may or may not apply to every single situation, but I'm telling you how, in my opinion, I was able to reach the PR you are looking for.

    Good luck!

    IMO Google:
70% - Aged links with good and varying anchor text from credible relevant sites. Domain age is an obvious factor here of both the sites linking to you and age of your site.
10% - Small Page size with good Content:Code ratio and use of synonyms in meta tags and throughout body. Fewer links on page seems to help to, but probably is just content:code ratio
    10% - Keywords in domain.
    10% - Title Tag

    Hello DMC,

You have mentioned above that small page size palys 10% role and keywords in domain plays 10% as well.

Now what i am curious about is that "Is it good keeping in mind the SEO aspect to have a folder with your keywords and then page name with keywords as well?"

    For Example:

    http://www.chadhaajay.net/firefox-to...velopment.html

is good or it should be like

    http://www.chadhaajay.net/firefox-to...velopment.html

Does the folder name with keywords of your choice plays a major role?

I've examined that putting your keywords in bold also improves the possibility of getting higher SERP's.

How frequently we should add/change content of the webpage to tell SE's that our content is alsways rich and fresh...?

Keywords in the URL do make a difference. Preferrably the broad keyword in the domain. Google seems to favor keyword domains and it may have to do with the degree a link to the site using the keyword is given a specfic weight.

    For example:

    wedding invitations on Google

You will notice the top 2 sites which are consistently swapping out between #1 and #2 have the keywords in the domain name and exchange links. It seems they need less links than some of the other non keyword domains to stay on top. My guess is because the links are counted more heavily because the domain name has keywords in it. These sites do not advertise just Directories and link swaps. It also it helps because every link even as domain name has the keyword in it and I BELIEVE less variation is necessary as Google cuts them more slack if the link is the domain name. If my site is www.lsmg.com and I get 5000 link as "gift baskets", Google seems to not give as much credit.

Other things to consider is the small page size <10k, basically landing pages plays a factor as well. But honeslty I believe this goes against better SEM judgement. "Enter Here" sites suck from a customer standpoint and generally have crappy page view numbers.

As for you question: IMO experience, the structure from best to worst:

    1. Pages in root with hyphens(no more than 4 hyphens) http://www.chadhaajay.net/firefox-to...velopment.html
    2. Pages in Directory structure http://www.chadhaajay.net/toolbars/f...velopment.html
    3. Any pagename without delimiters or use of underscores http://www.chadhaajay.net/toolbars_f...velopment.html or http://www.chadhaajay.net/toolbarsfi...velopment.html

I did #3 on pages on my new site and wish I hadnt now.
