Anyone know where to find legal music for website?

Oldie but a goodie. I have a client that insist on having background music on thier website. I've tried to explain that most will not like it. So, they have agreed to having controls to shut off and volume.

Here's my problem. They want the song "Signs, Signs everywhere there's signs" I've been searching the net for a couple of days and yet to find this oldie. I'm looking for a legal site that we can buy the rights to use the song or short sample of it.

The customer is always right and get's what they want. Does anyone have any ideas or know where I can look?

I'm not sure if its exactly what you're looking for, but Garage Band software has thousands of loops and is v easy to use and put music together with, and its all completely royalty free. You can make some great music with it and whilst there are some cheesy 80s loops on there, there's a lot of good stuff too.

The safest thing to do is to research the song, find out who owns the copyright, and contact them directly.

I found out the hard way that sites that claim to have free music do not. I went to original songs for which I got permission from the composers.

If you find the song on a "site" and use it you are taking the risk of being contacted by a not very friendly lawyer on down the line. You can be charged for every time the song is accessed, which depending on the popularity of the site could be thousands of times per day.

As with the templates we sell each is sold per domain name. This is why I figured I would ask here as just about everyone is thinking about anything and everything at once =0) This website is a vast sea of information.

I was not able to find what I'm looking for yet. And I will try your idea next as that's what I want is a legal right or few seconds of the song =)
