From now on I'm keeping Hammer in my car. WHY?
In Car Navigation Systems
My wife keeps on telling me 'Why do you keep getting lost' Easy, you try making a left turn while doing 80 just because some stupid machine tells you to.
Anyone else got one?

ROFL!!!
Had a few Hertz rental cars in Florida with them. Tried it the first rental - felt rather stupid after missing a couple of turns - turned it off and never used it again.
My wife would like her next car to have OnStar. I need no proof that new cars are getting smarter than I am. She's fascinated that I make my living in a high-tech world but wouldn't even own a cell phone if my customers didn't demand it.
My daily driver is a '47 International truck with a "modernized" (mid 70's) drive train. Four sensors on the whole truck - gas gauge, oil, water temp, and a speedometer. If I want to know the outside temperature, I roll down the window (manually, mind you) and stick my head out.

I love ONstar... it's a handy little system,
Last time we drove to Vegas we just pushed the little button and made dinner reservations for 4. They were able to make the reservations based on the speed we were traveling towards town (kinda scary) It is funny how advanced we're becoming with all the little gadgets n such... I was trying to tell my gf a story about (way back in the day B.C. 'Before Cellphones') The funny part is she was born in 83 so she just had this weird look on her face..... Like NO Cellphone? did you have running water in your house? LOL I personally hate them but have to have one now... I did tell my gf that they are alot easier to use than sending smoke signals (that's what we used to do right?)
LOL

On a recent trip I pulled into a garage for fuel and my mate bill asked me why I did a U turn before filling up (The fuel station was on the other side of the road). I wanted to make sure I did not just jump into the car and head off in the wrong direction. I am absent minded. until I began making it a rule to always park the car facing the direction I was headed I spend hundreds of hours going back . .

I couldn't get lost if I tried. I have some kind of navigation system built into my own system. No computer is going to tell ME how to get somewhere.
I laugh on some of the driving directions we get from Yahoo Maps. They take you all over tarnation on crazy backroads when it might be a straight shot down a HIGHWAY. Now I map driving directions for amusement, not for use.
As for cell phones, mine stays in the glove box of my car for emergencies. No one has the number and I hardly know how to use it since I've used it maybe FOUR times in the last three years. :)
When I need to get somewhere i drive round in large circles and sometimes i'll find the place i was looking for. Other times i will get completely lost in an unfamiliar town and make a day of it.
As for computer navigation and so called 'maps', yeah i have them, but where's the fun in that?
Keeping a hammer in the car? its a good idea, but i would use it to scare backseat drivers into silence. So what if i went a little too fast round a couple of tight corners and dinged a couple of mail boxes. Then they complain that there arent any seatbelts, well in the (in?)famous words of homer simpson, seatbelts kill more people than they save. I mean i have been in only a couple of accidents and hardly anyone was ever seriously injured. Whats everyone so worried about?
