    Why Do We Digress?

    today's buzzword is "off topic"

Matauri (Cindy) yelled at us today! lol...
and she's so right....we were about 75 miles off course.....
    and we stood corrected!>>>

BUT all this got me to thinking:

i admit it! i am guilty. i love to digress.

    there i said it.

i am guilty of going off topic all the time; to peregrinate wildly all over the place with an unbridled pen (ehh..keyboard)

to find wonderful non-sequiturs in popular parlance

to unearth hidden meaning in subconscious text

to flaunt diasporas of assonance and alliteration
in whimsical flurries of dialectical entreats....

digress! digress, thy beautul progeny of monotony
born unto us for one sole purpose:

to eschew boredom in this banal and hypertexed reality of cyberexistence.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------

or are we just being rebellious?

i wonder if we had a forum entitled "ONLY Off-Topic Posts to threads"
would everyone then rebel and post "On-topic"?

so how 'bout it WPW, why do we go OFF TOPIC anyway?

    Cindy
lol....i think i knew i was guilty already that's why it seemed like yelling! ;-)
like when my mom would catch me watching tv when i should have been doing my homework....

what got me to thinking about all this now was that i even started out (in that thread) trying to get people to "get back on topic" but then there i went off in my own direction like i was watching my fingers type but some other unseeable ineffible force was doing all the typing lol...and then i had to start playing w/ Rex again so of course i needed to do some more stupididity

this is terrible.....i have so much work/templates to be working on today...i'm picking up a major client($) at 6PM at the WPB airport (he's flying in from NY just to look at templates).......and what am i doing all day instead?......playing w/ posts and Rex cartoons and dilly-dallying around the forums digressing......
    i need help ;-}

daren, I was just going to say these exact words :
i am guilty of going off topic all the time; to peregrinate wildly all over the place with an unbridled pen (ehh..keyboard)
to find wonderful non-sequiturs in popular parlance
to unearth hidden meaning in subconscious text
to flaunt diasporas of assonance and alliteration
in whimsical flurries of dialectical entreats....

you know what! It is the contrast of the every day banalities of our boorish brethren, the majority being moronic in disposition and mentally shaped by provincial routines and purpose that give leave to a dramatic contrast ... ah I think,, what daren said, I'll leave it to him, he is tre bon with the bon motte, the cat with the colorful characters in his company, his dialogue as delightful as his designs; to pronounce with poetic parlance while I .. yes what he said! It is the shear joy of unbridled brashness what does it for me too :o)
Babies don't need a vacation, but I still see them at the beach... it pisses me off! I'll go over to a little baby and say 'What are you doing here? You haven't worked a day in your life!'

Daren "Why Do We Get Of Topic"

I go into site reviews and I see a lot of people that have posted for a site review and either have zero or 1 or 2 site reviews.

My thought is all these people are wanting to know what we think about their site and we're not helping them.

I then start trying to help them by doing site reviews. On a good day you can get ten new sites show up while your trying to do the first one.

I can spend 5 or 6 hours doing site reviews I need a break so I start visiting the other forums that do not move so fast and I see someone posting that I know and have not talked to all day so I stop to say hi or make a little joke.

Is it wrong somethimes yes sometimes no.

If it is a guy that has already gotten ten answers to his question although we still should not do it I do not think it is hurting anything.

If it is a guy that is having a lot of problems is upset and new and only has gotten one answer I think that is wrong.

I guess as in life there is no right or wrong answer.

If you have someone going around helping out people trying his best to answer questions and a lot of people read what he has to say and agree with him and like to read what he has to say.

They go to the forum just to see what he has to say eveyday.

He gets a lot of emails everyday from people needing his help and he gives a lot of free advice my email as well.

His advice is FREE so is it wrong to say stay on topic if he gets off from time to time?

But then I also think that when something gets off topic for more then two post it does need to be brought back on topic and anyone can do that just by posting something about the topic an answer or another question about the topic usually works great.

    Daren,

Thanks for bringing this up I think it is a great topic.

What does everyone think about post that get a little off topic?

But also keep in mind this is not a job and a lot of the people that tend to get post off topic from time to time are the same people giving free advice and helping people with there sites.

Well I have no clue as to what the real topic is here, so I am going to take a wild stab at the answer.

My answer is absolutely not, under no circumstances should you do this. But...there are exceptions. Those exceptions were duly noted in previous posts, so I do not want to retiterate them all over again.

Some people may agree with what I have just said, and some won't. It is my opinion and only just an opinion on this particular issue.

It most cases it is a judgement call, and you have to base that judgement on different circumstances and situations which can not be predicted beforehand, so there really is no cut and dry procedure that can be laid out for you to handle the myriad of problems that may arise.

Most of the time I try to avoid it altogether.

And how about them Hawks? I tell you they really suck this year....starting out so well too.

Not only that...what about this Widget company that everybody is talking about now?

    Ronnie,
    Are you running for election?

    absolutely not

    it is a judgement call

That sounds like your trying to be on both sides at the same time.
