    Link Indexing

    Hello,
Like you can see I am new and need help from the experts.
On my website ( http://www.spynets.com/lyrics/ ) I have approx 100.000+ lyrics, but in Google only 1000 are indexed. How can I optimase my website to give more chance google to index all of them?

    Thank you for your answer
    Lord

Hi, Lordmk, and welcome to WebproWorld...

Two thoughts came to mind on reading your post:

    (1) if you have 1000 pages indexed in Google, you are already doing well and should be seeing that translated into visitors to your site - once you have them there, if the sie design and navigation is done well, you have at least an even chance at getting them to visit other pages on your site.

    (2) how are you determining which pages are indexed by Google?

I would start by making sure all the pages where on a site map.

If that did not work the next step would be making sure I had links from the other pages to these.

If that did not work then I woud start getting out side links pointing to these pages.

Well, of course, there are a lot of websites offering lyrics but your site does seem to be well-indexed.

For +"http://www.spynets.com", Google shows "about 34,400" entries, although many of these are about games and gaming.

For +"http://www.spynets.com/lyrics/", Google shows "about 19,700" entries.

And you have a PageRank of 5, which isn't bad.

So your site seems to be well represented on Google at least.

You also seem to be well-listed in a couple of other fairly specific search phrases I tried.

So I guess my point is that I'm not sure you have anything to worry about in terms of people being able to find you and that's the bottom line. Once people are on your site, there is an alphabetical listing of lyrics by song title and artist, so it should be easy for people to locate what they want and/or browse for similar items. Probably the more important stats are number of visitors and average number of pages/visit...

I don't think the problem is that Google did not or just recently indexed them. I also don't think that improvement is needed on the indexing, although moving the title of the lyrics into H1 tags will improve the indexing....as will moving the title into the Page Title and Description meta tags. There is always room for improvement, eh? ;0)

But, you stated a couple of posts back that you thought the indexing was poor based on your log referrals, and I just wanted to mention something about that real quickly.

What this suggests to me is that people are not doing searches for a lot of your lyrics right now....eventually (the odds are) that they will do a search at least once for every one of your pages. Never assume that just because it is not in your logs is a reason for bad indexing.

The site map that Janeth mentioned is a very good idea too. On lyrics sites, I have noticed that they have directories as well. Two kinds...one for lyric titles and one for whoever wrote the songs. A lot of people may search by songwriter.

The more detailed these directories are, the better indexed you become. In the case of song titles for example...you may want to list titles that begin with the words "a" or "the" twice in your directories. For example Led Zepplin's "A Whole Lotta Love" would be listed a second time as "Whole Lotta Love, A" or even a third time as just "Whole Lotta Love".
