    Danica Patrick wins at Indy

Yeah, I know that she didn't place first, though she certainly was close, but she's the real winner of the 89th Indy 500.

Like most, I couldn't tell you now who actually crossed the finish line first, but I can tell you who was the first woman to lead a lap (and then more!) at Indy, who was the best qualifying woman in Indy history, and who won the 2005 Rookie of the Year - Danica Patrick.

She's the real deal, not a fluke.

This was the first time I ever watched the entire race. I'm not a race fan per se, but I generally root for the underdog in any sport and it didn't hurt that she was a female, young, former Illinoisian (as am I), and her car's co-owner is David Letterman. Okay, I'll also admit that she's easy on the eyes too, and readily admits she's NOT a tomboy; doesn't look like one either!

Take a look at Danica Patrick on the FreshDames homepage - we'll be adding a full profile and photo album before the week's end ... oh, better get moving huh?

She's also been the host of SpikeTV's powerblock for a while thus giving me advance exposure to her good looks. That girl can drive though. Its a shame that bad fuel preservation did her in.

    Robby Gordon wimped out!

Did you see where Gordon refused to race because the IRL wouldn't handicap her weight?

I have to admit that there may be some relevancy to his concern, but to make such a big deal of it publically and to refuse to race is a crock! NHRA handicaps the bikes for weight, but then again, they're only running very short distances. Patrick's weight is "guestimated" to give her about a ONE MPH advantage - shouldn't be a real concern for a seasoned driver I'd think ... If you're scared Robby, just say you're scared!

Yes the fuel concerns didn't help. But the fact the this young rookie rebounded from a pit row error (stalled) and a crash during a caution of all things, it was amazing that she had the ability to make it to the end to have a fuel concern. BTW, the winner had to be pushed to drink his chug of milk as he did run out of fuel.

I'm jealous - I don't get spike TV; but, I'll be adding some Danica Patrick pictures to FreshDames today and this weekend. If you have any stills, scans, etc. from the show she's hosting, please feel free to upload them to Heres1 for sharing.

She does the interludes between shows. I don't listen to what she says, i just look. :)

As for Gordon, so what. That was his loss. If they say they are going to penalize a girl for being small and skinny, then maybe the team should find a rider from the Bellmont Stakes who wants to go around curves closer to the ground at a much faster speed to keep the weight down.

Drivers who know they are at a disadvantage will come up with innumerable excuses as to why they lost. I was drag racing my car a couple years ago against a guy with the same model but he weighed more than me. He lost most of the time and kept attributing it to me weight less. He never mentioned that I also was smoking him at the tree and to the 60' which is where the race is won.

Keep up the good work, Dani!

Okay, Mike, I'm still in the process of prettying up and adding some pages, but here's a taste of some Danica Patrick Pictures to get you into the racing mood :)

Alas, racing is still just kinda boring to me. It seems like racing has a real 'good 'ol boys' kinda scene. Be real interesting if she started dominating a few races, maybe throw a punch into a rival's moving car after a race - y'know the schoolyard crap that passes for nascar 'highlights' on Sportscenter. I'd watch that... maybe.
