    Help with Google Ranking (http://www.bladesnbits.com)

I have a question and I sure hope someone out there can help. I have a .com (E-Commerce) Web Site whereby we sell online Router Bits for Woodworking, http://www.bladesnbits.com

My question is with respect to obtaining or hopefully obtaining a Higher Ranking within Google.

Currently I am enrolled in the Pay Per Click thing with Google (Ad Words). This is costing me a fortune. I am seeing a nice volume of Hits, but at a hefty price. Having to Bid to be on the first page, in the Right side is Expensive to say the least.

Under the Terms Router Bit we place well. But when the term Router Bits (Note the Plural) I can't find myself anywhere. If only I could rank on the First page, then I could in effect say good bye to the Ad Word Pay Per Click method of sales. I have the Meta Tags in place. We have been on the Web for over Five years so we have some Seniority if this matters. We have content on all pages.

If there is someone who could shed some lite on this subject I'd sure appreciate all the assistance I can get. We also Remit payment to MSN, Yahoo, AOL under Overture. This too is expensive. We place well with Overture, and for less money. But google is the Problem.

    Hope to hear from anyone with Ideas as to how to impove the Overall ranking of the web site;

    http://www.bladesnbits.com on Google.

    All the best,

    Bill

Google Ranking - Singular vs. Plural

    Dear Blades,

it looks to me that you've prioritised the singular "bit" over the plural "bits" on your home page.

    Router Bit appears 57 times
    Router Bits appears 36 times

According to word tracker "router bits" is the more popular derivative - being 18 times as popular a search term as "router bit".

To be honest the level of occurrences would appear to be keyword stuffing in the extreme. So rather than increase the plural I'd reduce the singular and maybe think about a complete rewrite of the copy and meta tags to reflect the revised priority.

Thank you for your reply. "Router Bits" is the Ideal Search term. I have been told that Word Count is Vital and to match the term Router Bit, or Router Bits is important to placement.

I have to include the Term Router Bit with the Individual products, as they are singular.

I will try as you say and make the changes and see what happens. I am thinking that perhaps for some reason the Search Engine "Google" in this case is not reading the file Index.txt properly.

    Thanks again.

    Competitor activity

    Bill,
it may seem a bit (no pun intended) underhand but you could look at the top ranking sites for "router bits" and see how they handle it.

I would be slightly more economical with the repetition.

Google seems to crawl your site on a regular basis so I don't beleive the problem is there.

    This particular term...

We've been trying for a couple years now to rank for that term as well. I did notice you're in the top 5 on MSN search, so well done on that account.

It seems that every time we get anywhere on the first page, something changes and we have to climb back up. Other phrases haven't been too difficult for us, but router bits just isn't anything we can do consistently.

Probably the best thing for you to do is get lots of incoming links with "Router Bits" as the anchor text. That could link to your homepage easy enough. Google shows you with 81 links, while routerbits.com only shows 13, but I'm guessing they have Router Bits in their anchor text on every one of those.

You do seem to have a spidering problem, as most of your pages don't show content (much like ours at the moment.) http://www.google.com/search?q=site%...ladesnbits.com
We recently moved most of our URLs from dynamic scripts to static HTML pages, so Google is still spidering ours. Can't really tell what the problem on yours is.

I also found this statement on your site quite alarming:
We apologize for our Low Stock,
our Current Supplier is extremely slow in Shipping product to us.
That's got to be killing your conversion rate.
