    Changing from .co.uk to .com

What are the pitfalls to ensure minimum disruption when changing your domain name from www.mydomain.co.uk to www.mydomain.com

The things that I'm mainly interested in are the effects on:

    • SERPs position
      IBL's
      PR

If this has been covered before (I did a search but couldn't find specifics), being pointed in the general direction of the relevant thread/threads would be very much appreciated.

    Thanks

It's basically just like doing it from step 1 with a new site.

SE's especially google treats individual domain names or even sub domain names as an independent entry.

    Transition to dot.com

As a suggestion run the two sites in parallel building up the search credentials of the dot.com.

Use plenty of obvious links from the .co.uk to the .com site.

If search is your priority don't swithc off the .co.uk site until the .com has achieved an equivalent status.

Permanent 301 re-direct will be key here.
It's going to take some leg-work, but you'll have to contact all websites that link to you and request them to change it.

I find msn tends to produce the most visible inbound links link:www.yourdomain.com
