    meta tag definitions etc.

    Have been rebuilding my entire site to get it working better and looking at some other sites source code I have several questions???
    I see lots of "meta name" in the source codes one in particular="revisit" content "30 days"
    metaname="generator" content "cutehtml"
    I am using FUSION 7.0 and don't believe cutehtml is used what should I put?
    amd converting all my pics from gif to jpeg=supposed to be better? hosting had preference for gif
    Putting meta tags on all my pages (indexing for search engines?) Do I need to put same meta tags on all pages?
    When doing a search I notice that some sites come up with BOLD type in there results--HOW to do?
    note I am self taught at this web page programming but FUSION has helped alot.
    Thanks

    There are many META tags in use on the web. The "revisit" that you mentioned is basically a hint to some search engines as to when their webcrawler should revisit your page. I don't know which, if any, search engines will acknowledge this. As for the "generator" tag, the program you use to create the page will insert its own tag with its name as the content. For a full dictionary of META tags, both the "name" type and the "http-equiv" type, check out HTML META, REL and REV Tags (though this page hasn't been updated in a while).

    JPEG format is preferred for photgraphs, and GIF for "line-art". GIF images are limited to 256 colors, while JPEG images have millions of colors. JPEG uses a "lossy" compression technique whereby some of the image information is lost in order to conserve file size. Basic graphics with logos are usually in GIF format. If you have an image with large areas of solid color, they will not look good in JPEG.

    Hope that helps a bit.
