Need way more traffic, any brilliant ideas?

    Hello everyone!

I was hoping to get some information that I think is critical to the long term success of my website, but I don't know where to turn.
    My url is http://www.spaskin.com
We sell skin care products. It is a fairly competitive space, but we manage to do okay in revenue due to our advertising on Adwords and Overture. We also tried Kanoodle, FindWhat, and Looksmart, which were a complete waste of money - no conversions. We do well with Google and Overture.

I am trying to build a significant increase in traffic to our website. When I look at competing sites through the Alexa.com analysis tools I see that our site is very small in comparison to other sites. I am lost when it comes to ideas about how to build large volumes of traffic. We have a current PRI of 4 with Google and are generally on the first or second page of listings for our keywords.

I would greatly appreciate any help or insight you can give me to building traffic.
    Thank you very much!!![/b]

Have you tried selling on Ebay

Use Ebay to generate traffic for your site by keeping 10 day auctions running. (same with amazon) Remember that EBay doesnt like obvious links.
So dont say 'visit my shop' in your listings.
    Instead say 'technical specifications here'

Join forums about skin care and recommend various products-(assuming you know a bit about skin care)

Write some news articles about new technologies and products. (Blog)

Affiliate programs - tell a friend and get a free entry to raffle for face cream!
I agree with you about those other PPC (We also tried Kanoodle, FindWhat, and Looksmart,)companys. They are useless bordering on fraudelant.

A few non-partisan (very key) articles on how to keep yourself looking healthy and beautiful would help.

Also, have you tried writing a PR about a new product launch? Get one of those whipped up and go onto PRWeb. They'll distribute it for you for free.

The article way is the best way, however...especially if you can pick a topic people are legitimately interested in that no one has yet covered (that's a bugger to do though.)

The best way that I find so far is writing reprint articles then submitting them to the large categorized free reprint articles directories on the Web like: http://www.simplysearch4it.com/article/articledir.php

I have never written a PR though and I heard that they are meant to be good.

Find Genre and Subject Specific Online Communities

You've already made the first move; you've opened yourself for peer review from a diverse audience.

Just because you're not keeping up with the Olsen twins or Paris Hilton, doesn't mean that there aren't community groups for your subject at Yahoo, MSN, Google, AOL or others. Spend a few minutes and look for subject / demographic specific online communites that might be interested in your information - information, not sales.

Try to publish some quick-reading, informative little articles about skin care, aroma therapy, insect repellants, or whatever that will appeal to most users in these arenas. If you write, and most importantly, host the full article (title, content and keyword relevant of course), say if you have a 100 - 200 word info paper, come up with a 25 - 35 word thesis "teaser" to invite users to your site for additional information.

These will also double nicely as PR submission fillers AND building keyword specific content pages for your site, hopefully resulting in more search engine hits, visitors, prospects, sales ....

    Good Luck!

Thank you. Articles are good, and I am trying to do it as well, but I am trying to increase significant trafiic, which is not 10-20 people from articles, I am looking into 10-200000 unq. visitors.
    All ideas are good though.

There is an FREE report for Windows you can use for many ideas on getting traffic and increasing sales. Some of the information is obvious for experienced webmasters and marketers but there is other information in the report and tactics that you may not have thought of. Since it's free you can just download it at http://themoneyreport.net
Inside the report you will find a lot of resources to develop your traffic. There are many such free information online and that's where I'd go first. Of course, forums, articles, etc. are good too. Start your own board about skin care. Find out everything you can about your top listed competitors and see how the got there. Backlinks, keywords, page content, presentation, etc. There are programs available to give you a ton of information on your competition. Ultimately, traffic is very dependent on the quality of your site and how useful it is (including its products) to the end user. If your site is 99% consumer focused, they're likely to come back and refer others, which in turn generates more traffic. Every website should aim at "repeat" visits.
