Google Index Beyond 8 Billion?

Has anyone else noticed that the number of search results have dramatically increased?

I had one client search results go from 11 million to 32 million, another client site that went from 27 million to 77 million results.

Anyone else see this?

It's been over 8 billion for a few months now....

Last increase I really noticed is when MSN started indexing everything it found, that seemed to get Google starting to index parameters and the index went up from around 4 billion to the 8 billion that it is now....

For the past few days, G has been reporting a total of about 6.9 mil pages in the pool for my most important keyphrase. Before this change, it was 2.9 mil and before the index doubling it was 1.3 mil.

I have no faith at all in the accuracy of G's pool numbers. Y! reports 3.9 mil and M$N reports 144k.

My industry is very small, and rather slow moving. So, I can't imagine that there could be such a dramtic increase over the past few months.

I´m wondering how real that number is. One of my sites, www.knowledge-finder.com shows about 3800 indexed pages with a site: search. But I know my site and I can assure you it has about 1200 pages only. So why Google claims there are about 3800 is a complete mystery to me. Sometimes it does get it right though, but most of the time it shows about 3800.

Hi Peter, nice to see that name... We are monitoring some websites and number of indexed pages are growing, problems with many pages that no longer exist (about 4000) and still are indexed? If there G has more in index, its clean why is G index so wide.

Same thing to my site. I think there might be some old pages does not exist any more are still in the index.
