    FX Studios Logo Design Contest

    WebProWorld members,

I'm pleased to announce WebProWorld's first-ever Logo Design Contest! This contest is brought to you by your fellow WebProWorld member cyanide and the team at FX Studios.

    FX Studios Logo

After analyzing their business, FX Studios have come to the conclusion that it’s a much better option to have a third party develop a suitable corporate logo. Sometimes it’s more difficult to diagnose your own situation than it is to see someone else’s design process.

So, FX Studios have turned to the valued members of WebProWorld and opened the door for a solution to the problem. They are looking for a logo to represent the company’s interests.

Tehy have two (2) main divisions:
    Web Hosting: http://www.fxstudios.net
    Web Development: http://www.fxstudios.ca

If you go to each site, you will see each one has a ‘temporary logo’. Obviously, neither is doing the job. The Development website was taken down in order to give it a massive overhaul and it hasn’t been fully implemented or uploaded yet, as it was preferred to wait until a suitable logo comes along.

    Basically it’s a 2-in-1 logo.
Cyanide's personal preference is to have the same logo for both, with possibly a slight alteration for each logo encompassing the slogan (i.e. ’Web Hosting’ and ‘Web Development’)

    Design Parameters:
    a) They would like to stick with the site's current colours (i.e. black, green, silver) and would prefer the background being black.
    b) The logo should have a look that would almost work with any background colour (e.g. white, for letterhead/newspaper). Obviously the text colours may have to be changed (they would do that themselves), but the ‘look' and 'style’ should remain
    c) The logo must have flexibility in sizing as they plan on using it for other avenues besides the Web, such as print, newspaper, signs, etc., so vector/Illustrator is preferred
    d) For display purposes, designs can be exported as a .gif or .jpg and posted to this thread

FX Studios would like to leave the door open for your creative prowess to shine through. If, however, anything is unclear or you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact cyanide via PM or email.

    Time Frame:
The deadline for all entries will be Monday, December 29th, 2003.

Posting: Aside from contest entry postings to this thread, feel free to post words of encouragement regarding the entries. Please do not post any overly negative comments regarding any aspects of the contest, as it does not provide for a positive environment. You may address any concerns you have to cyanide or Brittany.

The Prize: Yes, there is a prize for the winner…

awesome contest!, a few questions Brittany:

    1) Flash produces vectors----is this an option (i'm guessing 'no') when you say 'vectors' or do you just mean vectorized for 4 color CMYK export like ai. filies from illustrator (in which case should we be making both 72dpi and 300dpi versions?)
    2) If yes to above....the URLs for the two contest FX sites......i notice that they are all html pages......will any of these be converted over to xhtml anytime soon?
    3) Are we making a logo or a header? What are the exact pixel dimensions?
    4) should i be 'private messaging' these questions instead of taking up (ooops) valuable space in this forum?

    thanks ;-)

    My first entry

Made in Fireworks, text is vector and "FX" color can be reversed for printing on white paper.

Yes, Flash is not really preferred. Illustrator is. Because we're looking for an all-purpose logo, not just for web, but print as well
As far as dpi? I suppose it doesn't really matter, since with the original .ai file, we could modify it.

Good question. To be honest, we haven't really ventured into xhtml just yet, but certainly have an eye on it.

just logo, but 2 versions -1 for each site
again, size doesn't necessarily matter, as in a .ai / vector file, It could be re-sized. Ofcourse if you want to incorporate the logo into the header as thusmann has done, that's fine. However if a logo is really well-liked and ultimately chosen, there's no histation on our part to modify our web pages to conform to the logo.

    thusmann:
    awesome! great start
are those images/photos in the background? would they distort if it was blown up?

As a result of my postings, I was contracted for logo design job and vectorize the grid. So I now have a vector grid that can be resized. Thr orbs still need to be created, however, I would be happy to help with that. To see the enlarged grid checkout:

Be warned, its a very, very large jpg...

I know you "prefer" a black background but white has its advantages www.artlover.net/fxStudios.gif
