    Using product photos that "spin"

    Hi all..

I would like to know the pro's and con's of using immersive product photos that spin around.

Here are some examples using the JAVA approach. http://www.carrasdigitalmedia.com/examples.asp

I really would like to get your opions of why you do or don't use this approach.

    Looking forward to your thoughts

I think it's a great advantage if you have the time and resources to do that, but I wouldn't use Java to do it. I would use Flash.

Java takes a long time to load for something that's really not more complex than frames.

It comes in really handy when shopping for Cell phones for me personally. I like being able to view the entire product to see exactly where things are located.

That's just my ideas on the subject.

I agree with J_Paul works a lot better with flash. The java took longer then I would normally wait. I saw it done in flash on the dell site, for the axim(think that's how you spell it). Very cool, but can't say it lead me to buy it, went with the equivelent HP.

I say it all depends on what your selling. On average you would be off just giving a picture on the front and back and if nessary the side and save your customers their resources and load times.

You don't really need anything more than plain old JavaScript and HTML to do the rotating photos thing. You just have to have enough photos of each product so that it looks relatively seamless, and then switch them out with JavaScript.

Here's an example I experimented with (8 photos, IIRC). (Didn't really notice any response to the photo, so I never tried it again.)

For a really good example, check the figure galleries on the WizKids website. I think they use about 12 pictures per miniature, and it gives you a pretty good idea of what each of the minis look like.
