    Going from Static to Dynamic

When moving from a static to a dynamic site (in particular page extensions with .html to .aspx) are their things you can do to help maintain any of the existing rankings from the .html site?

When you normally redesign a site you would want to keep the URLs the same, but I'm assuming that it would not matter in this case.

It's always good to do anything possible to keep the URLs the same. If you're moving from html pages to .aspx pages, I believe that you can use the IISAPI component to do the rewrites (rewrite the .aspx file extensions to .html).

If you must change the filenames, then the best thing to do is to set up a 301 Permanent Redirect from the old html pages to the new .aspx pages. This way your visitors will still find the same page and the search engines will be told that the page has moved.

As far as the search engine rankings go, the major issue is the links that go to your old .html pages. You'll want to identify all of the links that go to your .html pages and get them changed to the appropriate pages.
