    Duplicating Meta Tags?

As a continued service, I am assisting a client in adding updated meta tags (and soon to be page content) as per instructions of the company they hired to do their search engine optimization.

Our first step was adding an exact duplicate of one set of meta tags to 12 different pages. Although all pages on the site relate to the company's business (hawaiian vacations), some of the pages we added these to related to different regions, and tips about things like where to visit, eat, etc.

Wouldn't it be a better to optimize each page (or even section) for the specific content that it contains, thereby broadening the potential searches that could reach his site, or is this a common technique in search engine optimization?

As I want my client to get the best value for his dollar, and would like to also learn more about this area, please respond with your comments.

Well, technically you should normally optimize the meta keywords for each page according to the information on that page.

However, since meta keywords are nearly useless, I don't know how much impact it would have anyway.

The critical word here being "nearly" - I'd answer the original question with the first part of cyanide's post, viz., yes - create separate keywords for each page.

create separate keywords for each page.
True .... purely because The SE ranks the "pages" not the website. Another important thing that one should consider before using the "exactly same set of keywords" in more than 2/3 pages is >>>> some SEs might treat this as a "MildSpam"

    Why take risks???
