IMO you'll have better long-term results if you seek out and contact your link partners by hand. I get a lot of business from clients asking me to undo the mess caused by automated link-finding.
The software itself is fine. The problem is the propensity for webmasters who use these types of services to end up connected to link farms no matter how carefully they select their link partners.
