    Web Pages and Keywords

When SEOing a website with a lot of pages (50+), should each page have it’s own unique keywords/phrases or can one have a few pages “bidding” for the same keyword/phrase?

You can have many pages targeting the same keywords as far as they have unique content. Also try to have a major keyword that you use as your site theme.

I agree with that , but 50+ pages for search purposes is quite large, the average viewer is either hooked by the first page and wants more or leaves through boredom. So whatever you do, make it 'User Friendly and reel them in'

Every page should be uniquely optimized for. All search engines rank each page individually, and the entire site as a whole. You may have some cross-over of some words that could logically reside on seperate pages.

However, think about it from a search engine point of view:

If someone types in "slippers", what would you rank higher, a page dedicated entirely to "slippers" or a page that mentioned "slippers" along with "shoes" and "socks"?

Nothing wrong with having variations. Your main keyphrase might be keyword1 + keyword2, for instance, with your other pages' keyphrases being keyword1 + keyword2 + keywordX, with keywordX being different for each subpage.
