Can i have the same content in both .asp and .htm formats?

    Hi all,

Can i have the same content in both .asp and .htm formats? Would it be considered spam?

Actually my site was earlier made in .html pages and has been crawled in google. Now it has been changed to .asp pages.

So i don't want to loose my ranking and at the same time want to manage the same content.

    Pls advise!

    Thanks

In that case, should i redirect my old site pages to new pages? as i don't want to loose their rankings.

Or instead of making a copy, shall i make do minor modifications to the page so that its not considered as spam?

    Pls suggest the best way?

    Thanks
    Lucks

I am planning on maing a .asp version of our website in the future in an online shopping cart. I am going to reword the copy and make it different so the content isn't duplicate. That way I won't lose pagerank, have duplicate content, and yet have both types of pages out there for the spiders to index. I am going to link them to each other also. I'm not sure where the fine line is about exactly how much copy needs to be different for it to alert a duplicate page penalty.

There is a site with a tool for checking for online copies of your pages.
    http://copyscape.com/
You can use it to check if that site registers it as a copy. Give it the address of your new .asp page to see if it is a copy of the .html page that is cached on the engines.
