    Inbound Links

Do Google and Yahoo transfer the weight of inbound links to the Homepage of a site to the other(inner) pages of a website?

How important is it to have inbound links pointing to other pages of a website other than the Homepage in each SE?

If at all possible, I really want to avoid having to add links to the inner pages of my site. It would just be way too much work. This is something I've wondered about for some time now.

    Hi,

We had a good discussion here where many members reported good results for Deep Linking (links to inner pages).

    Its worth the effort.

    Linking

    I agree,

Since the deeper pages are likely to be more specific to what people are actually looking for, and also less competitive to rank for, it makes a lot of sense to send people (and point links) to deeper pages as you'll likely rank better for them AND they'll be closer to what the surfer was looking for.

Thanks for the responses. One more question. I've seen the following stated many times before and pulled this specific quote off a link exchange website. Does anyone know if this is really true or not?

"Q: I've heard that one-way links (non-reciprocal) are better than reciprocal links. Is this true?

A: No, that is not true (although PowerLinks.com offers both reciprocal and one-way linking). Link popularity is determined by the number of inbound links to your website, and has nothing to do with the outbound links on your website. Reciprocating a link with another website does not hurt your link popularity at all - it helps it."

That have to say that, as that is the business they are in. ...just like those sites that charge for search engine submission - they say it help, but we all know it dosen't.

In all reality we do not know if reciprocal links are valued less than one way or not.... IMHO, I think SE's should ignore reciprocal liks (we got a thread going on that).

Google rates better a site that appears authoritative. Outward links to relevant sites are judged as a sign of this authority.

Whether a link is reciprocated is not relevant. Popular links into a site are rated well, as are the above ouward links.

Such matters can be tested empirically and Google can respond very quickly to placement of good links. I've seen results in Google on good links within *minutes* and hours - sometimes virtually simultaneously.
