Search Engine Submission Software?

Hi pro's...

I've got a client asking me to look into search engine submission software. We would utilize it for many of his website clients when their sites are completed.

What's the word on this? Are there good programs out there?

Never used them and never intend on using them.

Submitting to crawler type search engines (most of them)is largely a waste of time and money - either manually or by software. That time and money is better spent improving the site and getting links to the site (the search engines will find you)

As usual, CBP is right on the money. Submitting to a crawler-based search engine is a waste of time and money. Get good links into the sites and let the spiders find them on their own. You'll get in faster and rank higher.

Also, those ads that say something like "Click here to add your URL to 10 Zillion Search Engines!" will actually submit your URL to tons of FFA pages, if they even submit to anything at all. Again, a total waste of time and money.

So what we are offering them is to create their meta tags and do a basic submit to the main search engines. We don't have the resources to offer them a service for getting outside sites to link in.

Although certainly it's valuable information for them. The sites are also time sensitive. These are political candidates who really need to get listed quickly and not wait around for a crawl to find them. You know?

We were just wondering if someone had a good automation for a basic submit. NOT an FFA submit.

Therein lies part of the problem Lori. The sites will "get in" faster and rank higher by letting the spiders find them. URL submissions usually take forever, and then the rankings are typically so low that no one will find the sites anyway.

Do a Google search on the main keywords for the sites. Contact the webmasters of a few of the top-ranked sites and request a link exchange. Google and the others will find the pages through the links, and whammo, you're in in a matter of weeks instead of the typical months if the site was simply submitted.

Your clients' best best for super fast inclusion is Pay-Per-Click. Virtually immediate results!

Putting some thought into purchasing the right domain name will help with Google too - I know whatever potential keywords are included in the title will push a site up in those listings.

Up here, the strategy, which may not be all that well thought out, is to use the candidate's name, which is all well and good if you can remember the person's name but if you can't you're stuck... personally, I'm more likely to remember what party s/he's associated with. We had a mini-scandal here in the last municipal elections because just prior to the elections one of the candidates purchased domain names using the names of two or three of the other candidates so they couldn't buy them. Since I can't remember the names of any of the candidates involved, I don't know whether that strategy was successful or backfired.

On the other hand, maybe a domain name like www.partyname-cityname.com or something would work...

I am not certain about your customers locations, but here in Oregon it is pretty simple to get links into any candidates site from their party's (GOP/DEMs) sites at both state and county levels. Links from the national sites can also be obtained but they are a bit tighter on standards checking etc. Just search "Your state" ++ GOP for instance and you should see the state site you want to get to link to your customer, e-mail them and I am sure they will get the link up asap.

I used to use a submitter for minor dir and ses but have changed my view of the matter. The one I used, let me unclick the ones I wanted to submit by hand.

When I looked to see if I was listed in these locations, I couldn't find anything. I think they know the IPs of the autosubmiters and will not list you if it came from them.

Now I just rip through the submissions by hand. It really does not take much time if you are set up for it. Getting listed in the smaller dirs and ses will really help your listings in the majors. It's a lot like having a link from another site because the majors crawl them all the time.

One site that I put up recently, I just did submits to the smaller dir and ses with no links comming in from other sites, just to see what happened. I found it 2 weeks later on the first page of my primary kw page in goog. It was 2 spots ahead of another one of my sites that I had built 2 months earlier from the same template, with the same theme, just a bit more refined the second time around.

I read a blurb from one of the trade pubs that quoted someone from goog about how googs works. He mentioned 2 things and listing in other dirs amd ses was the second item. Having good clean code the ses can read and navagate easily, was the first.
