    # of Keywords on a Page...

I recently posted a thread and a fellow WebProWorld member made it very clear that keywords should only be on a page 3 times - NO MORE. But, I can't find that posting anymore, so I'm starting a new one...

I just wanted some other thoughts, as I have read that the number of times a keyword should be repeated on a page is between 4 and 7.

Keywords are not, nor have ever been based on number of times displayed on a page.

There is no magical number, however there are percentages to go by. However even with percentages there is no exact science to this. Some people say it is 12%-15% other say around 7%. There have been different posts started about this.

The best thing to do is go to a competitors site find out what percentage keyword they have, and go by that. Also remember content, content and more content. Obviously the more content you have the more relevant the keywords are.

There's no magical number of how many times a keyword phrase should appear on a page. Some pages mention phrases only a few times and others might mention a different phrase a hundred times. It depends on the phrase, the content of the page, and, more importantly, how many times other web pages mention the phrase.

If you're talking about keyword density, then do a search for that keyword phrase and find the average keyword density of those pages that show up in the top results.

My point is that your keyword density shouldn't be too high or too low based on what the average keyword density is for the pages that show up in the current search results.

It's correct by saying theres no magic number....

    There isn't....

The best way to research this would probably be to take bhartzer's advice and do some searches....

But you may have to go a bit deeper and check their backlinks and anchor to see how that may also be effecting it...

Generally speaking, if your discussing a topic on keyword, mention it as many time as possible without having your keyword mentioned so often that it sounds redundent....

If you mention a keyword 10 times and it fits well in general speach then it's probably fine... If it sounds like your using it too much, you probably are...

If the content sounds contrived, the keyword density is probably too high.

If it's unclear exactly what the page is about the keyword density is probably too low.

    My best advise...

Read your text out loud and see how it sounds. You will quickly be able to tell if it is too saturated.

I generally hit around 7 - 9% density and have been very succesful with that. I have also seen others succesful with much lower and much higher ranges.
