Poor Rankings, Am I Missing Something?

Well i'm approaching the 6th month my website has been up and running. I have seen 4 google updates so far, have a PR4, hundreds of backlinks according to yahoo (83 of which are showing up under google), nearly 2,000 links for my company keyword "ewebdevelopment", but still place no where in the top 1,000 results for my keywords on google.

As usuall I am ranking number 1 for all "ALLIN" type searches...

Am I missing something here? What is going on?

I have been using the correct anchor text for my backlinks. My site is also listed in DMOZ.

My keywords are:

"new jersey web design"
"new jersey web development"
"professional web design"

From a quick glance at your site it appears as though you've done your SEO homework. Perhaps the keywords you have choosen are too competative?

The only other thing that comes to mind is the Google "sandbox" phenomena. If your not familiar with it...google it, there's tons.

Having 974 links from link-pimp.com may not be helping your cause as much as you would like. How do you think Google really sees that sort of thing?

Ditch all the site-wide type links, they're killing you like they've been killing a pile of sites recently.

It might be best just to ditch that domain and start again from scratch. Set up a quick-and-dirty site on a new server, get a handful of QUALITY one-at-a-time independent anchors, and go top 3 within a week. It's practically guaranteed.

It's true though, I would stay away from programs like that as they are designed to "artifically" inflate your rank. It's better to focus on sites that would be actually useful to your users. In other words content...content...and more content.

I want to say in advance that I usually build sites to use a 3 word keyphrase an not a four word one. I will apply what I know to your 4 word keyphrase.

Searching for "new jersey web design" in quotes results in position #88. I do understand that this is not what a person wants. A quote only search isn't going to happen much nor would you want your site found this way.

You need to cut your keyphrase in half and look for sites having to do with each. You need backlinks from sites about "New Jersey" and "Web Design". The site doesn't have to deal with both. Go to sites that come up in google when doing a search for both those terms.

Your keyword density is actually better than the number one site for New Jersey Web Design.
If you feel more improvement is needed after some backlinks then improve on keyword density also.


I checked everything possible except for the linking idea that was raised above.
I would like to add that you have done one heck of a job on this site. The biggest pain is using a 4 word phrase. It is not easy.

I would also like to add that I made the mistake of clicking on the "Golden Web Award" on your company page (I don't know WHY I did this) and got inundated with %$#@%& pop-ups. It took like 5 minutes to close em' all down.

(IMO)Get rid of that thing. Everyone know it's just a crock anyways. They give them to everyone who applies.

bbot, you do have 974 links from link-pimp.com. The link: command is useless, search like this:

site:link-pimp.com ewebdevelopment

They're re-directs, but those are counting nowadays. Get rid of them.

I have many of the same questions posed in this discussion for my site as well. I am not a SEO expert but have had some success with Yahoo and MSN. Google is elusive...I rank well for keywords I have not even optimized for as in "saturation mailing,"(mailing-list-info.html in TOP 3) "mailer samples" (contact.html in TOP 3) etc. I am not complaining.. just confused.

Does this mean I have no good backlinks (that can't be true) or that I am not on any redirect sites?
