On Wed Aug 04, 2004 10:20 am I posted a message on Webpro world asking for a favour. I had recently put a beta version of my website live for testing and asked other Webpro members if they would review the site for me.

See the post:

The response was overwhelming. Each reply (15 in total) was considered and constructive, and other members too must have been somewhat interested by the feedback as the post received a whopping 959 views!

I must say that this exercise was great help for me (as this is my first website), and the post led to a hugely respected Blog reviewing the site too!

See the blog review:

The feedback varied from comments on design to usability issues and we tried to action the feedback ASAP. The subsequent changes we've made include:

1. Putting new text on the homepage explaining the service
This change was made once I'd learnt that Texans "like it big and see it upfront. Bottom line." (Texas Pepper - Webpro - member). On reflection the site was guilty of expecting users to dig around the site to understand what our service does – not good practice at all.

2. We changed the default country field to say 'Please Select'
This way when our members add a contact to their address book the service does not assume that the contact is from the UK or USA, the member must specify. & if a member has most of their contacts in one country i.e. USA, they can change their preferences to default one country every time they add a contact.

3. We changed the order of the country field
There was an error in the country field that excluded USA from the drop-down list of options & as DaveBarnes (Wepro member) told me "Tony is George's poodle, I expected to see US in the list." - so we added the US and UK to the top of the list.

4. We added a facility for members to unsubscribe to Contacts4life
It was pointed out to us in the review that subscribers could not unsubscribe from the service (or that it wasn’t clear how to do so) and we believe members should be able to remove themselves from the service if they so wish and in doing so from our database.

I hope the people who took the time to review the site see that their feedback was useful to us and wasn't disregarded. Any more feedback is welcome and would be treated with an equal amount of respect to that which gave to feedback received thus far,

Keep up the good reviewing!

Cheers,

Matt
