    Opt In Email Newsletter

I need to make an opt in feature for a client's site which allows users to submit their email address to recieve the newsletter. I wish to use an Access database and ASP but i have no idea how to.

Can someone please talk me through how to do this, all the database needs to do is collect the email addresses that have been submitted, and hopefully not allow duplicates or false addresses.

    Any help would be appreciated.

I just downloaded the free service from http://www.ezlistz.com/ which seems to be a nice way to collect email addresses for free without having to store them on your computer. You have to pay to gather further info like names and addresses though by the looks of it.

    Opt In Email Newsletter

I have used Spooky's login system (ASP and Access) for a long time. It can be found at www.outfront.net. Pretty easy to set up and use and great value for money.
I don't really see the value of creating a system from scratch when there are so many examples out there.

You don't have to go to far for this. http://webwizguide.com

Get all the scripts you might need, and pretty simple to deploy

I've used yourmailinglistprovider.com for a number of clients who wanted a newsletter but wanted to manage it remotely. It has a double opt-in feature and allows the subscriber to unsubscribe. It is free unless you want to import a number of existing subscribers. They provide the html code to add the subscription form to your website and you can ask for email, name, whatever you desire and make the fields required or optional. I've used them for the last 3 years, for both the free and paid versions. It's a good company all around.

    gotmarketing.com

Another great newsletter service is www.gotmarketing.com. They offer the double opt-in service as well as the email collection scripts to plug into your pages. I've never had any problems with them and they are relatively cheap for their newsletter creation services (about $25 a month)

Why would you use a 3rd party service and allow your customers email address to be at risk? Why are these services free, maybe its a great way to harvest email addresses.

No wonder there is so much SPAM around with these easy ways of harvesting email addresses.

Consider your customers (or potential customers) security and maintain this data yourself.

Bruce is right. You must maintain the security of this data. By European and UK law, you are obliged to, besides respecting your subscribers' privacy.

I have already told you one way, but there are many other scripts for the searching. You have to consider that these "free" services are making money somehow. If it is not obvious or stated on their site, then you can assume it is devious.
