    ISPs and Search Engine Alliances

An update on the situation in the Great White North, eh?

Recently, the two major broadband providers have aligned themselves with major search engines. Rogers (cable modem) have aligned themselves with Yahoo!, and Bell Sympatico (DSL) have aligned themselves with MSN.

I was just wondering if there were any such alliances in other countries, since search engine marketing would be impacted by such alliances.

I was actually wondering about this too ,Adam

Atleast Rogers didn't modify their email domain like they did when they dumped @home

Instead they confused many with the additional features of yahoo built into the email.

Such alliances seem to be the norm in the US, but often to gain ISP services.

Examples are Verizon (the largest local phone company) and Qwest (the smallest) which both use MSN. SBC (#2) uses Yahoo. BellSouth, the other Bell company, is the only one that seems to go it alone for DSL ISP service.

Comcast, the largest cable company, provides its own ISP services, but offers searches through Google on its home page.

RoadRunner, which is TimeWarner's cable-modem ISP appears, (judging from news stories) to use LookSmart as its primary search provider.
