    css is loading slower?

    hi,

after reading all about css on this forum, i decided to give it a try. i redesigned my site without tables and cut the amount of code for my page in half. the problem is, according to frontpage (i know, consider the source), the css version of the same page is about 4 times as slow to load. this doesn't seem to make much sense to me, so i thought i would look for some feedback.

here is the original version with tables, dynamic html, and javascript:
    http://www.azmortgagepro.com/index.htm

here is the same page written entirely in css (except of course the flash graphic) without tables:
    http://www.azmortgagepro.com/1index.htm

the new site isn't completely set up, so don't bother following links or anything, just check it out real quick please.

since i have a t1 internet connection and a pretty quick computer, they both load pretty fast, so it is very hard to compare. i was wondering if people with different setups could give me load times and/or advice regarding the load time difference.

also, some opinions on which site is more appealing in general would help.

thanks much for your input and help with this.

    good work

    HI John,

Nice css work. I checkout the site with
Mozilla 1.6 and looks good. In fact the
old version has some problems with Mozilla.

The paragraph heading overlap some of the paragraph
    text.

    thanks roland,

yeah, one of the obvious advantages to the css version is that it looks nearly identical across browsers. i tested it in opera, ie, and firefox and the differences were very slight, if apparent. i do worry a little about older browsers because i only had the newer versions to test with.

ok, i have figured out the reason why my page was loading slower thanks to one of the tools you showed me roland. i added some images to the css page from fireworks and they were really big files. the css page is now about 115k (71 of it from the flash movie) and the tables page is about 162k (also containing the 71k movie). i guess is hould think about removing the movie, but it looks so good, i don't want to.

any other feedback would be greatly appreciated.

also note that frontpage might not keep the css file cached so the load time might be affected.
