is there such a thing as good printer?

    Hi all,
I'm looking for some consumer advice. What I want is a printer. What I'm looking for is one that is of good print quality, affordable, reasonably fast, and most importantly quiet (I live in a flat and work through the night, and want to print things off without wakig the entire household up). Has any body come across a printer that covers my needs? Is there such a thing as a quiet printer?

You can't trust the manufactures when they say "the fastest, quietest, blah blah"

In the past, I've got so frustrated with my printers I've just ended up giving them away!

    Cheers all :-)

    dave,

If you can get hold of an Epson Stylus 760 (don't know if it's still made, if not then Epson equivalent) buy one, they're fabulous.

I've owned Epsons for years. A few months ago I got a Canon because they were on sale. A week later I tossed it in the dumpster. Epson is the way to go.

    Hi Dave,

Agree with the Epson suggestion (poetry!) - If you only want monochrome, Samsung ML laser range are v. affordable, and reliable, but for colour at a good price - definately - the Epson Photo Stylus range.

I agree with the posts here. I have owned them all: Canon, HP, Xerox, Lexmark. They are like disposable lighters!

The Epson seems to have the best bang for the buck and does photo printing the best. Plus I experience less paper jams.

I've got an Epson Stylus Photo 830U and I love it! It wasn't expensive yet it's quiet, quick, configurable and has never let me down. I thought my old, expensive Lexmark was good (if noisy) but now I know better.

We have had great results from Xerox/Tecktronics. Not cheap, but worth the price.
    Currently running a 6200 and a 7700.
Cost to run is high but results are great.

And the ink is cheaper, best value by far in the lower priced printers.

Absolutly fabulous, thanks so much for you're advice.

So, if I get this right, I should buy an Epson?

Actually, I've just had a look at the one in the office (at work), which rarely works, and it's ... er ... an Epson! (must've been from a bad batch!)

    Thanks again, ;-D

    Dave,

Yes you should buy an Epson. The one in the office is probably broken because someone dropped a chip covered in gravy down the back.
