    Doorway Pages?

What's Google's definition of a doorway page? It's pretty clear that they do not apprecate doorway pages.

The reason I ask is that my site functions in a frames set using .asp pages. As a result, some pages may have symbols such as & or ? and % that are not universally accepted by all search engines. In an attempt to offer Googles Spiders HTML code for these pages, I added a page called HTML links. These are simple HTML links without symbols to each of the pages in my site. If I'm not clear in what I'm describing, take a peek at the very bottom of the default page at www.myfootshop.com

    Any opinions? Doorway or not?

You simply added a Site Map, which Google recommends in their guidelines. You should label it simply as Site Map instead of Static HTML Links. Good job.

rlrouse is right. Google highly recommend a site map so much so I can not help wonder if the bot somehow looks for the words "site map".

I am not sure of what you consider a doorway page is, as the symbols you mention are parameters in dynamic url's which Google can follow fine if there is one and follow ok sometimes if there is two, as for 3 ... its pot luck.

Google are specific in their guidelines "Avoid "doorway" pages created just for search engines" - thats the best you can do with a Google definition.

    OK, good, thanks.

I've been using Web Position Gold as a submission tool. Part of their package is a homespun SEO tool called Page Analyzer (PA). PA simply is used to optimize your pages prior to submission. PA was very critical of symbols and in particular spoke of Google as one search engine that frowned upon the use of symbols in your URL. That's why the attempt to provide static links for the spiders.

Thanks you'all. I'll sleep a little bit better tonight.

You might find it helpful to check out Google's guidelines for webmasters at:
    http://www.google.com/webmasters/ and
    http://www.google.com/webmasters/guidelines.html.

Excerpts from the second of those pages:

    * Don't use unauthorized computer programs to submit pages, check rankings, etc. Such programs consume computing resources and violate our terms of service. Google does not recommend the use of products such as WebPosition Gold™ that send automatic or programmatic queries to Google.

    * Don't employ cloaking or sneaky redirects.
    * Don't load pages with irrelevant words.
    * Don't create multiple pages, subdomains, or domains with substantially duplicate content.
    * Avoid "doorway" pages created just for search engines, or other "cookie cutter" approaches such as affiliate programs with little or no original content.

Dog gone it! I did my homework (or so I thought) and in an effort to dodge the costs of purchasing page submission, I opted for Web Position Gold.

What's the thoughts on Web Position Gold from those folks in SEO? The reason I ask is that Web Position Gold is marketed as a tool for folks in the SEO industry.

I completely missed the part of your post where you mentioned WPG. (I'm glad minstrel caught it).

If you "purchase page submission", make sure you hire a qualified human to do it for you instead of someone who will simply use a robot. Submissions are best done one at a time, by hand.

And submitting to Google is a waste of time. A couple of quality inbound links will get you in much faster (and ranked higher) than submitting your URL.

I also have Web Position Gold.
Idon't use it to submit my pages though, only to help optimize them.

IBP is another program that will help in that area. I find that after working with them a while I undertand more about SEO and don't need them as much. I had them a very short time, maybe a week or two now.

    Re: Doorway Pages

Doorway Pages do work but don't play with Search Engines for quick win. Slow and Steady wins the race.

Don't use any Spamming Techniques and just keep your eyes on for Quality Link Building.

    No FFA Links
    NO Links Farms
    No Guestbook Links
    No Hidden Links

And you are up there everywhere. :-)
