    key words

    Hi, guys,

I previously posted this on the Introductions Page, mainly because I am a newcomer to this type of thing!
#My question is whether the term 'Keywords' refers to the text actually seen on the website, or to the meta tag HTML code hiden behind the pages?

    Regasds,

Oh, my! "Shakespeare, Hemingway, now Mike Cunningham." As I wind down from the tizzy that this comparison generated in my fragile literary sensitivity zone, I'm compelled to venture an answer to your question.

    Yes and no!

There is a meta tag that can contain keywords:
    Code:
<meta name="Keywords" content="Shakespeare, Hemingway, Cunningham, pretention, unparalleled pretention, megalomania, etc.">
But, of course, those terms and phrases chosen for inclusion in your keywords meta tag need not appear anywhere on the web page. Clever search engine algorithms will detect if you're attempting a spam tactic, though. And even if they didn't, it's always better to be genuine. Why state in one context what you aren't willing to state in another. I guess I just place a high value on unassuming honesty.

    Dear Stew,

I would have thought that even Americans would have detected the unsubtle sarcastic humour in my little header, but I suppose Oscar Wilde was correct when he stated that America was the only country in the world which had passed from Infancy to Senility without passing through Maturity.

    Regards,

    Wozza

Wow! Indicting a nation for the presumed faults of one of its inhabitants, and supporting it with a quote from a vapid, up-tight, anti-American* such as Oscar Wilde, may have revealed more about yourself than you really should have. Rubbed a nerve a bit raw, huh?. If I had been even remotely serious when throwing out the "pretension" appellation, I would have reinforced it by pointing out another indication of your undisguised vanity that adorns your website: the World Best Website Nominee medallion. Come on! This is just totally bo-o-o-o-o-gus, and most all of us Americans (in the web dev biz) know it.

Sorry if you took offense the first time. This time there can be no mistake as to my intention.

    * Here's the quote that we Americans remember having been attributed to Wilde: "America is the only country that went from barbarism to decadence without civilization in between."

Here's another quote from Oscar Wilde, in further support of his bias: "America had often been discovered before Columbus, but it had always been hushed up.

Keywords refers to the most important words used by searchers to find your site. For example if you have a car rental firm your site keywords can be: cars, rent a car, car rental, cheap car rental etc. You must choose your keywords carefully and place them in your page title, page content, links, image alt's, etc. This words would be found by SE and considered as 'keywords' to describe your site.
