One needs to keep in mind that Yahoo, MSN etc have a HUGE lead on Google with e-mail accounts. My money is on Google to slowly but surely over-take Yahoo and MSN. Google brilliant track record cannot be denied.

Dave Hawley, Google reads email is the same as spam filter r

    Dave,

I disagree that google's form of reading your email is the same as a spam filter reading your mail. The big difference I see is google will store what they have read in a database. Imagine the type of personal stats you could calculate after you have stored a years work someone’s email in you DB.

I prefer www.2cni.net for my email. some features are:

    100MB space
    Spam filter
    Message highlighting
    Message translation
    Out of office messages
    A Calendar
    Bookmark storage

And my favorite, Got Hotmail, which allows you to get your hotmail from www.2cni.net so the tiny size of you hotmail account no longer matters because every time you login to 2cni you can have it retrieve your hotmail.

    Free from Yahoo

    or

    Free from Google

    No complaints, it's free

    with some strings attached.

Use it for what you can, and don't store

    sensitive info.

I prefer www.2cni.net for my email. some features are:
I went and signed up for an account there for a look see, but it is unable to retrieve e-mail from my hotmail account. I set it up, and asked it to retrieve. It said there was nothing, so I went to hotmail directly, and there were about 23 messages. I deleted those - all junk, and then sent myself a message to my hotmail account, and went back to 2cni.net to check my hotmail account, and nada. No joy. It still said, "You have no mail," so for me, it's not working very well, at least not that aspect, and that sounded like a pretty cool feature.

I can't see it as being useful for storage either since the "owner" points out that your e-mails are not backed up at all, so if he loses it, you lose everything. That's not nice. I wonder if the other services backup the messages? Maybe I should pop over and check that out - or if someone else knows, please speak up.

So for now, I'll stick with the bigger dogs. I thought the point of the large amount of storage was so you could keep e-mails for a long time - it's not much good though without a backup system in place.

Thanks for the tip though, and now I'm the proud owner of yet another free 100 mgs of space that I'm too chicken to use.

As an addendum to my post above about www.2cni.net, I just read their e-mail message and I didn't realize they offer FTP access and Telnet! Now we're talking. I like that!

I also didn't realize Yahoo offered all that "free" space. I might have to go take a closer look there too. The tricky thing will be keeping track of all these accounts.

Actually, I said "Are you aware that a Spam Filter also reads you mail in much the same way as google does for relevant ads?"

You are of course entiled to use which-ever free email service you like. However, are you sure they are not doing the same as Google, or worse?

Here is Google Privacy Statements which I find VERY up-front. http://gmail.google.com/gmail/help/more.html

I strongly advise basing any decisions on the facts rather than rumours.
