I have converted most of my pages to CSS and added SSI. The ssi page includes the style sheet, meta tags, background and header graphics as well as return links to the main catalog pages and the shopping cart view and check out buttons.

Can anyone tell me if this will help or hurt on Google ? I have slipped from a 4 of 10 to a 2 or 3 of 10 rating of page importance.

This won't help or hurt. The crawlers will see the final HTML after the includes. It will not even know you're using SSI.

I use SSI in my pages & I have found it has not has any bad effects with search engines' results.

Like achronister said, it definately wont have any effect. The server executes the script before any html is delivered to the browser so the search engine never knows that it happened at all. Same effect if you use php, using an 'include "";' statement.

The use of SSI or any includes will have not effect your PR, if that's what you're asking.
