First off... no one is getting banned. Nothing has been said that constitutes a ban IMO.

Mikey - as much as you may prefer to write in capitilzed standards, it is not the standard ifyou are going to be serious about web design. Web design is a lot about presentation, and while you type in capitals you are not presenting yourself well. It may be OK to want to do it on your site, but, if you want to make a go at it...it is best to adopt good practices now. I'll bet your school teachers dont shine on it too favourably?? But in regards to Digital Dragon snapping at you, he didn't mean it as an offence, he was only trying to get your attention that is was irritating. But you know now, so dont fret.

Dragon - unfortunately age does come into it. it's one of those fad kind of things that sometimes we have to discipline. Granted it doesnt excuse it, but, it is one that we have to be more tolerable with. Think the 'gods sake' was a tad overboard. probably a "will you please listen" would have worked better.

Mikey wont write in capitals any more... and Dragon wont get irritated!

Now, can we get on like happy little vegemites now? :-)
(thats for putting me in mother mode!) ;-)

Yes, I Understand. I Apologize And Will No Longer Type All Words With A Capital Letter... Whoops, starting now I mean! Anyway, I was actually having a bad day and I guess that comment kind of sparked my anger. I'm not sure how the whole 'ban' thing came into this, but that is not the case. I was only used to typing in Capital Letters every first letter, and that is why I did so. Thanks for understanding my side of the story and thanks for the comment on maturity. I didn't mean to "scream" at DigitalDragon. I simply wanted to express how I felt and I agree with what you said in the previous post. We all have the right to express ourselves, but sometimes we get carried away. We all make mistakes every so often; that's why we become better!

    Sincerely,
    Mike

P.S. I don't write every word with a capital letter in school; only on the web. It's sort of a typing thing...

    Only real awards...

I agree, the only REAL web design awards -- the only awards that mean anything -- are the Webby Awards (www.webbyawards.com) or, if you're a high school student, the Student Web Awards (www.studentwebawards.com). I think Macromedia used to run its own competition for Flash sites, but I'm not sure if they still do that. Otherwise the Webby Awards and the Student Web Awards are the only two that really count.

Actually, there are others. There are some countries that have delved into 'industry' areas & also have web awards. The Aust govt has an 'industry' award.

The one thing you have to look for in web awards... is WHO are their benefactors & sponsors, and the types of sites being nominated. You wont see someone like Coke sponsoring Golden Web Awards will you? No. Industry awards carry endorsements, award ceremony nites ,etc.... they dont just give you an award link that links you back to their site.

There's a great little text editor called Crimson Editor that will do this, and it also color codes for HTML, javascritpt, php, etc. It will also easily remove indents from copy. Best of all, it's free!

    Web Awards!

    I can only say why!

A site that says that they have recieved a reward for this, that or the other thing. Most of the time I simply laugh! The only reward a true professional ever needs is to be happy with his or her own work!
I think that alot of the people on this forum feel that there sites are acceptable, but as most artists they are never totally happy because a true work of art online is never done but only made better!

Additionally professionals appreciate input whether it be negative or positive on all aspect of their site and then as professionals they put to work the information they like and discard what they don't.

So my short answer is, rewards are not important!

    matauri:

You're right, of course there are others -- I should have clarified my statement. I was speaking from the perspective of a graphic designer in the U.S. -- so I was referring to large, nationwide Web design contest that are well-respected and not industry-specific. Some advertising or graphic design associations (like the AIGA) include some sort of multimedia category in their national design competitions, but I suppose I was referring to standalone awards programs. Though there may be others, the two programs I mentioned -- the Webby Awards and the Student Web Awards -- are the *most* respected by the *most* number of people within the U.S. design community. The Webby Awards is international, but I believe the Student Web Awards only accepts submissions from within the U.S. since it is a student-oriented program and has links with teachers at American high schools across the country.

And you're absolutely right that's it's important to look at the program's sponsors!

Gary, I agree with you also, to a certain extent. It's silly to put an award graphic on a Web site -- that doesn't add anything. Actually, it's rather tacky.

However, I think the "big" awards do have some value for the designer. Putting down on your resume or CV that you won a Webby will mean something to a potential employer, because it says something about the quality of your work (before you have a chance to show him or her your portfolio). And similarly, the Student Web Awards is useful for high school students to put on college applications or applications to art schools -- for basically the same reason. It's a strong statement of the designer's quality of work.

    Website Design Awards

I used to remember when the web had some really honest website design contests and awards. It seems like any awards on sites now are just another marketing scheme (eg. Golden Web Awards).

Does anyone know if there is a reputable organization that judges the design of a website. I am looking for one who awards for form and function of a site.

I like to draw inspiration from good, clean, fast loading sites that have that artistic touch and good, updated content. Yeah, I know there are few that are able to marry all of these elements, but I admire it when they can pull it off.

Also, if you think there is a site that has all of these elements, post it here so I can have a look.

    Thank a lot!

    Rich
