Advise on Hosting Please

Hi

I live in Costa Rica and I almost ready to sign with a hosting company (www.1and1.com)and I would like to know if this is a good company. They offer good things and domains for as low as $ 5.99 a year.

Does any one knows about them? Are they a realiable company. My main concern is that I like their offers and I send them 2 emails and 1 fax but didn`t get any aswers from them. Can you help me please

Hi,

I usually advise people not to let a hosting company register the domain name for them. The reason? Sometimes when you want to change hosts, the one that registered the name can make it difficult.

Registering names is cheap, and you can easily do it yourself at places like GoDaddy.com.

As far as hosting, 1and1.com looks OK. It's been advertising heavily lately in computer magazines. But if you're not getting answers from them now, that's not a good sign when you need support in the future.

You might want to look at a few alternatives I recommend on my Web Design site (see Do It Yourself, Hosting).

Thank you very much for your advise. I tell you that I`m in Costa Rica and when I start with my web sites, I sign a contract with a local company because they did it easy for me.However, now whit a little more experience, I realize that they are charging me a lot of money due they are re-sellers. For one domain they charge me $ 25 a year and that other company only $6. For hosting, my company charge $ 25 per domain and that one $ 11 including 5 domains.

I will check what you recommend, however that company replay all my emails with a lot of valuable information.
