    HTML Newsletter

    Ok,

I'm getting really frustrated with this.

I have an HTML page: http://www.reliablefilter.com/newsletter/april2003.htm

I want to email it as a "newsletter" but when hotmail and yahoo mail account recieve this email all the .jpg's and .gif's show up as attachments.

How do I avoid this? Please look a at html in this page. I have full URL of the images as the link. I don't use ASP.

    Thanks a bunch!

How is the HTML being sent?

Cut and paste? or via script?
Are you declaring any header info?
    Content-Type? Encoding the message?
    etc...

Have you tried sending the newsletter via a signiture from Outlook. Make sure all graphics have their full URL and not just the 'image' folder extension?

If you send a HTML newsletter to people who have their email client set to 'Plain Text' (more people are doing this due to email borne spam code) - they won't see the graphics either - In fact they will see all the code in their preview too.

You might have to produce 2 newsletter - 1 plain text, 1 HTML and send to the appropiate people.

Even if you come up with a way to do it today, (and its been awhile, but you used to be able to do this by setting up the headers properly) there's no guarantee that in their fight against spam and virus's, Yahoo, etc. won't change things and mess up your newsletter again.

Perhaps a better technique might be to send an all-text newsletter with prominent links to get the 'complete articles and photos' online.

Even people who do not use the major services might install Internet security software that will not allow HTML email, so it might be best to assume the worst.

    I wouldnt want it

I wouldn't accept a newsletter which clogged up my inbox with graphics. If you have something to say, send me a text only email, with your headlines, and two or three links to your relevant webpages.

I haven't tried putting images in my email but I think there is a checkbox for HTML code in Yahoo email, try full path names for images and anything else.

Or you can go another way which is with Constant Contact, http://constantcontact.com They let you send newsletters for up to 50 members for free.

    I hope this helps.

    Adam -

Thanks for offering another suggestion, but I think most of us would have some concerns about turning over email addresses of our clients to another company like constantcontact.com

There's already enough spam out there. If clients suspected that some of it was due to your careless handling of their email addresses, it will not endear you to them.

Besides, I think most would prefer to have more control over every aspect of sending newsletters and most of my clients wish to send over a thousand newsletters at a time. (But I recommend they send text newsletters with links to the online 'jazzy' versions).
