    www.ellarconsulting.co.nz - awaiting your comments

OK guys ... after lots of procrastination I have finally got round to working on my business page and your reviews would be most appreciated.

Have had some feedback on other forums that I belong to so it is a work in progress (due to the fact that certain features don't work in Mozilla, Opera etc)

All reviews are kindly appreciated and reciprocated.

Please note that the redlinks on the service page are not functional yet ... hopefully next weeks mission. And there are no meta tags yet (once again on next weeks list)

I look forward to the site which retinks these services for a new century. Right now the site looks clean, but that is because it doesn't explain anything.

There isn't a business proposition. This isn't even brochureware, it's stuff which could have been on a business card, and fluffed up a bit. Try explaining what you do, and how you do it differently from others.

The site looks okay, the layout seems to make sense. You can get from here to there ...only to find no "there" there.

I have only a few comments. First, there are spelling errors on the home page and about page. This could be a serious problem for a business that offers secretarial services. Secondly, IMHO some of your grammar could be improved on in an effort to sell your services. There is not much 'meat' in your statements on your home page. You might consider expanding the text to sell your services a little better. Also, the type size on your home page is larger or a different font than on the services page. I do like the smaller type on that page. It looks more business-like.

I hope you will add you meta tags soon and when you get to 'keywords' make your text on the home page very rich in search engine phrases and words.

You have a nice looking appearance and it should sell your services well with a little more text.

One other thing. I don't like justified paragraphs. It doesn't look natural and the increased spaces between words are problematical. This of course is my opinion only.

    I wish you well.

    Thanks for the reviews guys

Ok to all of those who complained of spelling errors. Please take note of the country I live in ... NEW ZEALAND. If you are referring to words like establiShed .. here in NZ we use s not z .. just like the word color in NZ has a U in it. I was really distressed to read that I had spelling mistakes until I realised that nobody had bothered to note that I wasn't from the States.

Secondly, to matthew98 if you read my first post you were told that the red links did not yet work as I wanted to get the main pages working first. You also say i have poor design but do not bother to say anymore than this. Whilst I have no objection to criticism I do prefer it to be constructive and useful and this was not. Would you mind teling me exactly what you thought was wrong with the design or how you think it could be improved.

The meta tags and final content are not in place because it is the first time I have worked with CSS and I am tring to get the general layouts working before I optimise for search engines.

    Thanks All

    Site review

    fair point,

    1. vareity on your front page, inlcuding & Theis on your about page. (In the UK we do not use Z either but we do use a spellchecker)

    2. I run a small business and your opening comment, "recently established consulting service" would send shivers down my spine. Either you can consult or not, I would suggest "with over x years providing consultancy advive to new businesses we can help you", you get the point. Tax is about attention to detail, your design does not say that.

    3. If by asking for a review you want me to say what a fantastic site, love it, then so be it but if you dont want my opinion do not ask!

    4. Finish you site before asking for a review, it will have more meaning and be more constructive

Sorry to be so harsh but why is it people can not use a basic spellchecker but expect customers to flock to them.

As always IMHO and best of luck, life is hard enough without using rose tinted glases to see through!!

thank you I appreciate the feedback and now that you have pointed out the mistakes I can bring the site back down off the net and fix it.

I refuse to put that I over x years providing advice to small businesses as I don't. Want I have is x years experience running departments for other companies and now I own my own business and through my business I manage 2 unrelated businesses. Neither of which seem to mind that I have only just opened my doors. They appreciate that I have knowledge that they do not. And here in NZ a recent survey said that 80% of our businesses are small business owners exactly like myself who work from home. In fact both the security companies that I manage are also run from home.

I appreciate the feedback and will put the site back up for review when I have made the recommended changes to the spelling and have got the service links up and running.

I think I am going to stick with the general layout as I want it small, neat and tidy. I only need to attract 4 more small businesses into management consultancy and I will be working full time so the website is just a little extra bit of a push but not entirely necessary as all work so far has been by word of mouth.

    Cheers
