you may use adwords.google.com for your requirement. It would help you. You may come to know about the monthly search for the keyword, competition and other factors. And as marijames suggested go for low competition and high search keywords.

I agree with Donovan Google's Keyword tool in Adwords is a great source of keywords. I use it all the time. You can input a few keywords and it will give you a ton of suggestions related to your keyword.

One piece of advice, make sure that you understand Match types when you research keywords.

Match Types
The traffic volume that appears in the statistics table for a specific match type is an approximation of the traffic that a keyword gets in a month on Google with that match type.

Broad match: The sum of the search volumes for the keyword idea, related grammatical forms, synonyms and related words
"Phrase" match: The sum of the search volumes for all terms that include that whole phrase
[Exact] match: The search volume for that keyword idea

If you are looking for a keyword for marketing, I suggest you use [exact] match. This will give you the actual number of people that searched for that specific keyword (not any variations of the keyword).

How about this definition:

Broad - search counts include searches in which all of the words from the search phrase were used, but not necessarily in the same order.

Exact – includes searches in which the searcher entered the phrase exactly as it appears .

Phrase - these search counts include searches in which all of the words from the search phrase were used, in the same order, but possibly with additional words.

Which searches will be best in all three?

IMO, it really depends what you are trying to achieve. "Broad and Phrase" searches can give you variations and ideas that might serve you well in your campaign with "phrase" matching being a little closer to the words being queried. "Exact", as you would imagine will deliver specific and closest references and data pertaining to the exact phrase and word order. Mind you, which ever tool you are using to extract this data from the search engines may also give you the option to "suggest" other words in proximity to the exact phrase data you are seeking.
