    DMOZ Submission

I have one site which I've submitted to dmoz but till now it's not there. Is there any other reason for which it's not getting displayed there? please help.

I've just done a forum search (which works great, I might add) and found this thread. submit my site in DMOZ

This will help you to understand the DMOZ process.

When have you submitted? Usually Dmoz takes 4 - 6 months to review the submissions and accept it if your submission is worth adding in the category you have added.

I suggest that if anyone has any questions like, "are there any specific rules on submission", "what do I have to do to be accepted", "how long does it take to be accepted", etc, please click on this link: submit my site in DMOZ It's a great thread which will answer some, if not all of your questions.

A little off topic, but still a good question Dany. Anyone care to chime in on this?

Yes, it is still a valuable link. It is a human edited directory and the quality is high because the editors and editorial guidelines are strict.

Submit once and forget it. And I mean don't ever submit again; DMOZ doesn't like that. You get in, it's gravy, you don't, it's not that important.

In the past I've done a stint as an editor of DMOZ and mjtaylor is right, things are strict. There are four crucial things:

    1. Submit to the right category. Read the category guidelines and they will tell you. Read lots and carefully consider your site. Spammy submissions just for the link will get kicked into some of the longest grass on the web.
    2. Submit where you are most unique. If you sell printers across the UK from a base in Reading, then submit to Businesses in Reading, not UK Printer Supplier.
    3. Look to see if the category has an active editor. If not, it will probably take longer.
    4. Submit once to the right category.

Good, relevant submission can be approved very quickly.

I had submitted my site before 4-5 months but still waiting for approval. I want to know that in case of rejection do Dmoz sends rejection mail or not

Like many others on this forum, I have "done my time" as a DMOZ editor. (No doubt we could all tell stories of why we quit as editors, but don't want to embarrass the friends we left behind!)

Let it be emphasized that there is no predictable timescale for your submissions to be reviewed at DMOZ. Posts saying 2-4 months, or 6 months, or 2 years, are all nothing more than useless guesses.

You submit your site to a category. That category has an editor. That editor will have a backlog of suggested sites for his category, most of which will be spam. He does not even have to look at suggested sites. He may "do his own thing" instead, and browse the internet himself to look for sites to add in his category. There is no rule at DMOZ that says an editor has to review suggested sites ever, still less within any timescale.

If you submit your site to a category where the editor does not look at submitted sites, then you will never, ever, get listed in DMOZ. And you'll be left to guess why.
