Google offers some excellent guidelines for off page optimization, and they are also offering a lot webmasters a warning letter to say they don't trust their links. If you haven't checked your webmaster tools lately, it's a good idea to have a look.
agree with mjtaylor, directory submission is still a major part of off page SEO activities and if the directory is SEO friendly then it can be beneficial for your money website. Probably the best place for checking back links of own websites is Google Webmaster Tools. If the directory has listed your submitted link in a web page that is not blocked by search engines then it will be shown on Webmaster Tools

I don't think that is what she said at all.

Thank you for defending my honor, LD. ;D

I do think there is a place for directory submissions, especially niche directories, but I wouldn't say major. And I didn't say it in this thread.

There is definately a place for web directories, but try to only submit to ones that will bring relevant traffic to your web site. Also check the directories other listings - if it is full of spammy sites than avoid it!

Really? And what decade did you scrape this list from, to include a "Link Wheel" as a recommended off-page strategy?

Honestly, "Jeff", just copying a list from some other website and posting it here isn't going to get you any credibility.

I know the idea might be a bit out there, but from my perspective, we know very little about Google's and the other's search algorithm. Yes there have been hits over the years to directory type websites and the links from certain ones devalued but with what's still out there, we don't really know.

I've, from time to time changed up my submissions but at other times I want to use the same title and description so there's no ambiguity in determining the niche I'm in.
    Here's my understanding;

    Links can give a negative.
Directories have been hit in the past for selling links.
In the past directories haven't passed much juice.

My question is not if they are worth the time but if you could get the opposite affect from what you are looking for. You spend the week submitting to directories only to see your ranking drop.

Ya I hear ya I guess, the thing is that I (I haven't for a long while now) used software to automate everything so it did it all for me in the background AND the process, for each website took less than an hour or so and I did it once a week. Doing so worked for me, and when I say worked, I mean, I did see increases in rankings and no drops.

Ofcourse,it is very hard to submit the same article into different article directory site, but it is praticable if you have an article spinner to generate different versions of unique article from this seed article. But these kinds of articles are relatively low quality

Article directory site just accept unique article,or not this type of sites are also not worth for your submitting as it will be very low quality.
If you indeed have enough artilce directory sites, you could try the best spinner to spin articles from this article, then submit them, but you also had better review and correct the unavoidable errors of grammar and sentence structure hidden in the spun articles.

Then why not just rewrite the article from a different perspective, rather than putting it in a blender and spending all that extra time correcting the content to make them "make sense"??

Then why suggest such a spammy tactic?
