most probably have 4.0 in the title for other reasons. The book was published in June 1998. Other results for web 4.0 give none serious results in my opinion. Other members may mean the the whole

is a misnomer (not sure if that is the correct term since my native language is Norwegian).

So my question is:

What will Web 4.0 and beyond be about?

Wow, that is an interesting conversation starter!

In my opinion, web 4.0 has to be something similar to Google's Project Glass (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project_Glass). I don't see what else web 4.0 could be. I've heard people talk about the future of the web being 3d worlds like second life, but I don't see that taking off with the majority of the population. We have that already, and most of us don't participate.

Instead, Web 4.0 has to be about merging the web with the real world through mobile devices. The Glass Project is one example, but there are plenty of other way to do this using mobile devices like smartphones and tablets. There are already several augmented reality applications on mobile devices. For example, Google Glasses does a search by taking a picture. Yelp and a few others displays local places where they would be in real life using the camera, and there are others.

I believe applications like that and devices like the glass project are the future of the web, or web 4.0.
